This is probably old news to the racing folks but in browsing around regarding what was going on in Moni Maker's life I found the links on you tube of her world record under saddle performance with Hall of Famer Julie Crone. Neat in the past record holders were ridden by women so the connections went with a woman rider...it is in two parts..a nice view for a Friday..enjoy

Very cool!

Why don't they race trotters under saddle here more often? I think they do in France? Not that I'd want to post/stand that trot...

I was about to write the same comment!

But anyway, thanks willowood for posting the links! Julie seems really nice. I judged her some years ago on her jumper whom she also rode great! I believe his name was Bunny Rabbit (?)

Yes they do, and for some big money too. The Prix Cornulier (http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/trot+monte+prix/video/xtin1_prix-du-cornulier-2006_sport) is worth over $1m.

Thanks for the link, that was a lot of fun to watch! I never realized how fast they trot!

I can't get the video but know about the record breaking mile.

You can post the trot at slow speeds but once they hit higher speeds, that trot smooths right out, same with the pace. Due to spring conditions at one now gone training track, we used to ride them out instead of driving, less stuff to clean

Sorry about the spelling of Julie's last name..my bad..

I have ridden in something called Roadster Under Saddle..which are trotting bred standardbreds and we may not go as fast as MM, BUT it is in a show ring (way smaller circumference sp) and man o man you are flying..you don't/can't post as the step is tooo fast..fun fun class! My legs hurt forever after as the thigh grip was the only thing that kept you centered LOL

Remarkable.

but I was most struck by the end, where they ceremoniously pulled of the mares shoes to signal her retirement.

All the standardbreds that go through Kitchener and are headed to the slaughter house also have their shoes pulled, but not nearly with so much ceremony.

Gosh, I LOVED Moni Maker. Looks like she's had 6 foals. All fillies.

None that have raced have reached her levels. Two have already had foals themselves. Here's the catalog page for one of her grandsons:

Wow. Interesting that in the French race some jockeys were posting, but most not. And the horse that broke stride couldn't keep up!

Also I thought it interesting in the first video (with Ms. Krone) that the prompter horses that galloped along in sulkies were Thoroughbreds!

It was Peter Rabbit and he actually just passed on not too long ago

But in all seriousness, thanks for the video! Had no idea that Moni Maker had earned more money than Azeri. Fantastic quick education on Standardbreds, trotting, Julie, and racing- thanks YouTube!
One more thing- what a lovely, lovely mare. She just oozes Standardbred!
