Hi All!
For my Christmas/Birthday gift this year I've asked my woodworking father to make me a tack trunk!
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to make the most of the inside, or if anyone had any other "features"
Pictures would rock too if you have an awesome trunk that you want to show off....
TIA

Oh I like this! I've never seen one that was upright (i'm used to seing the chest type ones)
I think I would make the saddle rack removeable, so i could hang more things on the back side if needed.
You're so lucky your SO makes these.....

Put wheels on it. You will never regret that decision. :)

Two wheels or all four?
I would imagine if you had two wheels the trunk would sit crooked?
I have a "regular" tack trunk that has a removable saddle rack on the left side with the sliding tray on the right and a divider down the center. I LOVE that the saddle rack is removable; I usually just have it standing up in the corner of the trunk in case I need it. I also covered it with fleece - since it's triangle, it was scratching the underside of my saddle.

Two wheels or all four?
All four. I got four wheels for mine for $20 total at Home Depot. Two locking wheels in front, two normal wheels in back. I have had trunks with only two wheels (mounted on the left side) and while that is OK for a plastic trunk, you do not want to be lifting a wooden trunk any more than you have to.

If you like it and want some more room, door on the side for other things and so on. I can do up plans for you and send then by email and your dad can make it. there are many things that can be done. This one is just for shows, not at the barn. I like that it is light (can move by myself) and can have my saddle in it and be locked. If you want sooomething that you are not going to be moving much there are some many things you can add on and have it a bit bigger.

This month's WoodCraft magazine has a lovely Arts and Crafts style blanket chest. If I was to put a label on the style I'd say Greene & Greene. Lovely ebony accents.
With very minor modifications it would be a gorgeous tack trunk; truly an heirloom piece.
Plans are included in the issue but may be available on-line.
Check it out - just lovely.
ETA - Here is a link to the current issue - with a photo of the chest. http://www.woodcraftmagazine.com/default.aspx
