As I'm cruising Craigslist for stuff for the new house, I couldn't help but look at the farm section. Here is an ad I found. I'm sure the 2 minis would fare better than the 2 listed?!?!

I have a paint filly that was a late foal and just turned 2. She leads, loads, stands tied, and started lunging, and has had a saddle on with no problems just no rider yet. She is a loud sorral and white overo. The other horse is a 7 month old bay stud colt. He is also a paint but is a stockbreeding paint. He has a star that is almost a heart shape and two white socks. He leads and stands tied. I would be willing to trade for tack, hay, alfalfa, ect. Let me know what you have and we can work something out. I would also trade them for 2 mini horses. I need them gone by this weekend my other horses dont like them and I cant stand to see them picked on no more. I am only asking $250.oo for them and thats not even half of what I payed for them when I got them but just need them gone. Thanks for looking and have a great day. Also both horses are pure breed but no papers thanks for your time.

I wonder if he was letting the colt run with the herd....he might have a whole lot more horses for sale next spring!
I found this one, which while NHR is kind of cute...
I need a small section of my yard tilled before the ground freezes. The approximate size of the area is 30 feet long x 3 feet wide - basically a strip along the back of the yard and alongside the garage. My neighbor, who is also my yard maintenance guy, kept promising me he'd do it all summer, but he seems to have disappeared. I really need this done before the first freeze. Please respond with your price and availability. Must have own tiller, own transportation, and some kind of insurance and/or understanding that you are performing the work at your own risk, because I am pretty poor and don't own much of anything of value to take away if you hurt yourself. And if you do a good job (and also own a lawnmower), we can talk about firing my neighbor.
Oh my stars...I am going to be editing my post all day long if I browse CL...
**Sale Pending** 2.) Tri-colored Framed Ovarian (rare pattern) Paint/Walker mare- needs intermediate rider-trained western, but will train easily to barrel or whatever you'd like-very willing and sweet mare- 15h/5 yrs old - Oh my stars, that is SOME kind of "rare pattern"!!!!!!!!!!

I'm looking for free to cheap farm animals in the xxx area. Will pick-up skinny/diseased animals for free. I have requests for 2-3 Rams, 2 ewes, show animals, 2 ponies/mare, 1 barrel horse, 3 milk goats, 4 show goats, Boers, 2 pets & one cattle dog. I will not spend more than $35.00 do to the fact that gas usually costs me $75.00, it takes me 4-8 weeks to get most animals back in shape and 40% of unwanted farm animals die within two weeks. If these animals are disease free and become/stay healthy, there's a good chance they will live a happy life. Mean animals get up to 45 days to change their attitude, which they usually do.

Large in-tact Jack, $100. or B/O. Partially halter/saddle broke. Good for cattle, breeding, only pet, pet w/mare. Not good around small animals/children. Very jealous! Will trade for sheep, cows & goats.

Double !!

A free chestnut QH mare, 11 years old, companion only (no mention of why), must go ASAP as owner is moving. Since she's free:

I refuse to look. I don't have to. The people trying to get rid of their horses seem to be finding me just fine w/o the use of the internet. I must have a "nah, I don't want to spend time with MY horses, I'd rather try to find YOUR horse a home" beacon going off. Anyone know how to disable that?

Aww, poor lonely horse...

I always like browsing for horses that I know, especially when I see them mis-advertised... there's a poor, elderly, sweet paint mare that I know that's listed right now as "loves to round pen" and "is on a joint supplement that costs $30 a month for her arthritis, but arthritis is fine with supplement." Except for that they never actually BUY the poor girl her supplement because $30 is too much per month (though they have a very nice house and a boat) and all they ever do with her is show up periodically to ride her or round pen her, which I am sure she does not enjoy, considering the untreated arthritis... argh. And they're not mentioning any of her other health issues, mostly because they refuse to show up for vet or farrier appointments so they probably have no idea what's going on with her. If they end up selling her to a dealer I will burn their damn boat.

I did like a recent ad on CL for "Stinky Billy"--"Mature billy goat. Very large and very stinky." Well, that's a sale in his pocket, I'm sure!

My favorite was one that appeared last week and I neglected to copy it before it was removed.
A woman wanted to "Rehome" a pheasant that had flown into her yard. She wrote every word Starting With A Capital Letter and sounded quite desperate to have someone pick up the pheasant before nightfall.
I hope someone told her It's A Bird. It Will Fly Away, Just Like It Flew Into Your Yard!

Our family farm in Kentucky has 6 goats, and Big White the billy goat reeks! Yes, they urinate on their faces and they just have this musky horrid odor. I swear every time I come back from Kentucky I smell Big White for days, and I don't even touch him! I suppose they could be kept less stinky by giving them baths, but they are "free range" goats and have no purpose except as pets, so we let them stay stinky.

Beautiful Chestnut Mare, 2002 by Horse Chestnut out ofa Forty Niner mare - Infoal to Desert Warrior. Has a suckling by her side, therefore will be available to pick up in Oct when weaned. Very easy keeper - produces correct foals, UTD on shots and farrier. No vices. Reducing herd and need to sell. Will take offers.

Half arab filly. Make offer. She has had no hands on. She is very spritited and I have no experience to train her. I have not even been able to get a halter on her. Just need to find her a good home.

Have too many horses, thanks to the stallion. Now I need to find him a home. He is 15 yrs. NOT BROKE, but has been saddled. Is good for farrier. I have his papers, but never transfered ownership, so I don't know if I can call him registered.

Shes asking $200 for the filly & make an offer on the stallion. I'm guessing stallion is the fillies daddy. Gotta love how its all the stallions fault that she has too many horses! Flint, MI, fyi

Here's another one from our area. This isn't the first time this poor boy has been on. THis is, of course, complete with photos of the woman's probably 4 or 5 year old daughter holding him in the mud wearing flip-flops. Poor Gus.

6 yr old Shetland Stallion. Not broke to ride yet, but you can put a saddle on him. My daughter sits on him with a saddle and I lead him around with halter and lead. He has never had a bit in his mouth. Hasn't been ridden much as my daughters prefer to ride our 19 yr old shetland gelding. Too many horses need to downsize. So, unfortunatly "Gus" must go. Asking $250.00 or would trade for a working laptop with wireless card and dvd drive or PS3 or ????.

Here's one in my area, needing a "trainer" for free:

" 2 years ago I purchased a beautiful (may I stress beautiful) 3yr old palomino for my daughter, "green-broke". Foolish I know, considering I hadn't riden in years (many many) and thought I could do this... Well here I am 2 years later with a beautiful 5yr old Palomino still NOT broke. I have riden her but she was following another horse. She has also put me in the ground, which is why I have not been back on her. It scared me. I desperately want to ride her but I just can't afford a trainer. She will saddle and takes a bit with NO PROBLEM.

I am hopeful that there is someone out there that may have just started out and is looking for some horses to break to show your work to others, or maybe someone who knows what they are doing and have no fears and would just like to do it for the fun of it, or maybe someone who just has a kind heart and would like to help or best of all, someone who has pleanty of money and doesn't need anymore.

I must also mention that although I did purchase this horse for my daughter, she quickly out-grew the "ahhhh" of it all (horse poop will do that to some) and she is mine (spit shake at the barn one night). She is my dream that I need to come true. I NEED to be in the woods and running down dirt roads on her... Please, if you can help this bruised bottom mother, I would be very greatful. "

From the Quad-Cities CL:

This is a fantastic program. I actually donated my horse to them in 2001. They do great work that saves Horses. If you're not interested in adopting, please look at the main website. They are a non-profit organization that take in sick or starved horses and spend their OWN money and time in rescuing these horses. They keep track of all the horses that are adopted. The horse I adopted is in Kentucky with his 'mom' at college with her. He was even featured in her college's equestrian program's magazine cover!

http://crossedsabers.com/

One of the horses pictured below is a BRAND NEW rescue and is in OBVIOUS need of a LOT of care. The other horses listed below are all available for adoption. The horse that is in need of care is a rescue. This is what makes this program so great. They give horses a second chance at a healthy and loved life.
If you're interested in adopting a horse, go to http://www.crossedsabers.com/ to see more horses and information.

We have 2 ponies that need a home. The gelding is approx 12 yrs old, red & white POA named Apache Raindrop who is a perfect beginner pony. He goes in a snaffle, will walk all day, has excellent brakes and has a great extended trot & jumps 2 feet rails. We think he is about 11-12 hands & fat as can be. He just got all his innoculations for the yr except his coggins & has been wormed consistently. He is moonblind in one eye but it doesn't phase him in the least. No meds or weeping. He came from a home that had a 4 yr old riding him, he is that gentle. The second is a Hackney mare named Scarlett who is somewhere between 17-23?. She is very fearful. But she stands to be saddled, trimmed & we have been ground driving her to help put her back in shape. Apparently she's had lots of babies & her back is fallen off some due to age but she has never offered to kick or bite, just very fearful. Both come when called and the gelding is a real people pony.. They must stay together. A small adoption fee of $1.00 each adoption fee with contract to deter a trip to New Holland is required. W are looking for a lifetime home for these kids & they must stay together. Both are fine on pasture & no grain for the POA or he'd explode. Sorry no pics but come & see them, they are darling. [edit]. Thanks

Oh god, can someone go rescue this poor horse? "ok till he was hooked by a bull". Really? Ya think? Maybe he's just being manhandled by a complete tool.....

That is a hilarious ad! But I don't think that horse needs to be rescued. They said he was a pick-up horse, I'm sure his getting hooked was a complete accident and had nothing to do with being manhandled.

Today on Craigslist I found the mare I had given away 3 days ago -was going to be used for the grandkids to poke around on - advertised for $700 as sound, "owner forced to move", and listed with incorrect registration info. And pictures yanked from my myspace, including one of me riding!

Luckily they gave her back when I called to confront them, but geeze! This was my co-worker's mom that did this!

And I had picked up a very cute, very cheap TWH mare off Craigslist already, so now I have 7 horses and 6 stalls.

EXACTLY! There is some risk involved in the lives of REAL WORKING HORSES. Its amazing how many people how no idea that some horses in this country still EARN a living by doing far more than standing in a stall all day, being jogged around the ring, blanketed, petted, over loaded on cookies and groomed to death. Sounds like this working ranch horse had an accident (could have happened in pick up, hazing or just moving cattle in general) and is now a bit of a *#^@head. I see no "rescue" here either and no manhandling either. He lOOKS like a heck of a nice horse and built (and broke) like a million bucks. The seller is honest and to the point, don't we all with ALL sellers were so frank about their horses?!?! Funny ad over all, I'd buy a horse from the guy, seems like a really honest seller with really good horses...well except for Mr.Attitude in the ad.

Here's some from Oregon.

FREE Registered American Paint as well as Breeding stock. She is Lame I am not sure what is wrong with her or if it can be fixed. I was told it is her front legs/ feet .I know that she was worse when we first got her and the more time she spent with the other horses she did walk better and even ran a bit but you could tell she didn't like to run. We have had her for only about a year she was given to us because her owner couldn't care for her. She is 18yrs old. This is all I really know about her. I also know she throws pearl colored foals. One of the reasons we got her was to breed her it just didn't work out, we had to get rid of our stallion. So if you need a breeding horse she'd be very good for that.

I have two half sisters. They are both AQHA reg I have there papers in hand. They are TRUE Red Dun Roans and the AQHA has it noted in there charts because the AQHA only recognizes Red Duns or Red Roans. I have WAY to many horse REALLY. These girls are both two and halter broke. They have been well feed but not had much else done. They will follow you or wander around together. I have hauled them and they do fine. They are getting easier to catch. Tiki is a bit darker on her face, legs, mane and tail. Roxi is the friendlier of the two. They both already stand 15.1h and are still growing that is why I didn't start them this summer. I was going to use them in my breeding program but I am going to focus more on halter horses than ranch horses and these two girls haven't the huge butt I am looking for.
I will sell them for $500 each with a free breeding to my blue roan stud or cremello stud both AQHA registered. Or I will sell them together for $700 without the breedings. Email me for more information. These girls are sound and fast. I will consider trading for a gelding that has had at least 2 years of fairly consistent riding and has excellent ground manners he doesn't need to be registered and NO gated horses, draft horses or arabians please. I'd also take hay (big bales are fine).

Got to love Craigslist.

Chivito is what we call a dark caramel buck. Please the only reason i am giving him away to a good home because i just got another pygmy goat that i can show for 4-h next year and i don't want him seeing me with her and hes not getting the same attention. Chivito is GREAT with kids and will not but anyone or anything, except dogs if they bite his legs, Chivito even went down a slide with me at a near by school lol and he is really good on the leash so you could walk down the street with him and he wouldn't care .Please i only want him to go to a good home were hes going to get the attention that he needs. Don't call if you want him to be your dinner. If you called for him before, call again so i can make sure that i gave you the right information about him and about his height (about 22in. at the withers). Chivito is roughly 40lbs"

From somewhere in Montana...

Big grade gelding. Been used as a pickup horse until he got hooked by a bull. Think he has a split personality, some days he's great, some days he's a real prick. No secrets here, you need to tranq him to shoe him or he will try and kick your head off. He has been used for branding, moving cows, ranch roping ect. And like I said, some days he is great, we have had beginner riders on him and they have done fine,, I have ridden him in the hills or gathered on him and he was fine,He is not great to catch, although we have him turmed out on 140 acres so he can leave if he wants, but in a smaller pen he is much better. he just needs someone that isnt going to take his $hit on a regular basis. He needs to be taken and used. We bought him with the intention of selling him and because we have more than enough horses he has gone to the bottom of the priority barrel. He is not a horse for the faint hearted, if you are handy and need a project or if you think you are handy and need to try and prove it. Please call +++++++. I think he is about 11 years old. 15.3 hands. Anwsers to the name of Dick. Ok, he doesn't anwser, thats just what I call him. $2,500 obo.

I HEART this ad. And whoever called the owner's out as idjits earlier, let us know how it goes, as it seems you think you are handy, and might want to try and prove it :) He's right up your alley, no?

this mare is 15h and...

"Jade is a good horse but would like to find something a little shorter for the kids to be able to ride. Would trade her for a 13-14HH Mare or Gelding, although I would prefer a gelding for the kids, would like to find a Quarter horse cross. Needs to still be stocky and big enough for an adult to ride as well in case any issues came up that would need to be corrected. Around the same age is fine as long as he/she is in good shape and doesn't need any special feed, and well broke with no issues. PLEASE NO PONIES! "

Um...if you are looking for something under 14 hands...its a PONY.

(I realize that she is looking for a horse of pony heighti realize that what she probably means is she wants a pony sized horse and not a pony breed)

I need a saddlebred stallion or an arabian stallion to breed to my very well bred arabian mare. I have limited funds, if your fee is too high I can offer training or boarding as a trade. Stallion must come to us as she will not load, I will pay gas. Need this done asap, Please help!

This person posts a lot...must be a horse trader:

"Horse" IS A 6 YR OLD GUILDING BROKE BROKE FOR ANYONE TO RIDE ,HES BEEN ON MY FARM ALL HIS LIFE I DELIVERED AND RAISED HIM MYSELF. HE S A REAL NICE HORSE NO BAD HABITS NEVER BEEN MISTREATED HES GOT IT ALL.I ALSO HAVE A VEDIO.HES BEEN MOUNTAIN RIDDEN,PARADES ,SHOWN IN HORSE SHOES.COME RIDE HIM HE WILL SELL HIMSELF

This one was just funny- Title: Small Mean Rooster
Very pretty little bandy rooster. We hatched him out with five little hens. He is real mean and will come and hunt you up for a fight. So you never have to worry about finding him to feed him. As he will find you.You don't have to worry about the stray dogs killing him as our dogs are afraid to go to the barn. He needs a new home real bad. He will be no trouble to catch as all you have to do is stick your foot out and he will hook up. It was real funny for a while and we are long over that now. Sure breeder as all of the hens are setting and one hatched off 11 already.

I hope those of you who find needy beasties on craigslist or wherever REMEMBER that you don't have to take them to keep forever, but can rehome them, find a rescue to take them, whatever seems appropriate (perhaps put them out of their MISERY) instead.

Don't they pee in their beards or something? I don't know I've never owned a goat but it seems I read that somewhere one time.

yep, and on their front legs, and on their belly, and on their faces......somewhere, someone must have genetically told them that it makes them more attractive to their ladies:lol: - unfortunately, no one told them what effect it has on the beings that have to trim their feet, worm them, give them shots, feed them, clean up after them, introduce[I] them to their ladies, and dispense the pets, scritches and other forms of affection they seem to want (at least [I]my two seem to want )!

That's pretty cheap for how pretty he is - maybe he's a wild man!

Free 17 yo appy mare for trail riding. She looks to be in decent weight from the pic, though given the condition of her coat and the green grass, the pic is several months old.

From Southwest Michigan...

We have a 4 1/2 year old Haflinger pony named Angel and we need to find a new home for her. We just can't afford to feed 2 horses anymore. We are asking 650 OBO. Angel belongs to my 13 year old daughter and has been shown in 4-H 2 years. She did driving, western walk/trot, showmanship, halter, trail and tried the speed and action with her at one show. She actually placed at that show and she had never practiced it before. She is very friendly and trailers pretty well. The last few times we put her into the trailer she just about beat us in and we have a small trailer. My daughter rides her bareback around her pen with just her halter and a lead rope. She is a stocky horse as she should be for a Haflinger and needs a wide saddle with a full quarter horse tree or a cordura saddle without a wooden tree. She needs someone who can show her that they are in control. She is just like a toddler, if she thinks she can get away with something, she will try it. As long as you are confident and you lunge her or put her in a round pen before riding her she will do anything you ask her to do. I usually lunged her and then handed her off to my daughter who is not as confident and firm with her and then she was fine. She is eager to please. I took her to a girl who trains horses and gives lessons and had her keep her for a few days to make sure she was a safe pony for anyone to ride and she loved her and said that she was a great pony. She assured me that she was a very nice, safe pony. I just wanted to be sure before selling her to someone else. I don't ride, I work with them from the ground so I needed someone who knew what they were doing from on top of the animal. She will walk over tarps, bridges, logs and even stepped on an empty plastic bottle & it didn't even phase her. She will walk up to the mailbox without issues and is not afraid of the traffic. She has even walked past a moving lawn mower without any issues. My daughter was working with her from the ground to teach her to jump. She jumped the boards and logs that she lead her over. She is not real happy to see an umbrella up yet. She does not like to see a whip in your hand, we think she was abused before we got her. She is a little antsy around men unless she knows they like horses. She doesn't like my husband, but he doesn't like horses and she knows it. Our ferrier is a man and she is fine with him. I have trained her to not push me when I am giving her food. She automatically backs away when I go to the bowl and if she is still too close I can say step back or back up and she will take a couple steps back and then when I say ok and step away she goes in to eat.

I'm not sure if that one's O.o or just sad.

Of course, you have to have a vedio player to see it. Wonder if those shoes he's been shown in come with him? Maybe it has something to do with the Guilding process, although it doesn't say which guild...
