I'm currently 6 months pregnant with my third child. I am HUGE. With my first 2 I was much lighter and I had to stop riding at 5 months because it was too uncomfortable. I have not ridden at all during this pregnancy. And today, I learned some very important things-

At 6 months, I can still get on a horse

At 6 months, I can still ride a misbehaving schoolie

At 6 months, I cannot get OFF of a horse, my belly is too damn big!!!

I remember riding prego and needed a step ladder to get off. Good thing my horse didn't care if this big step ladder was leaning against him and two people holding it and him. Too funny isn't it!!!!

Can I ask how you finally got down? :D

Congratulations on your little one, by the way!

Oh the memories! The first one I was trim and cute and leaping on & off horses - the second one I was much older and I was pregnant everywhere - not just my tummy - LOL!

I totally feel your pain...I was the same way. Although, my belly was too big to get off my 4 months.....I had to stop riding altogether by 5 months because the underside of my belly was hitting the pommel of my English saddle.

Yes, that's right. My BELLY wouldn't fit in my saddle anymore! Talk about embarrassing...:o

My guy is such a good boy though, I could slide him right over to the mounting block to scramble off of him. (He's 16hh and a foundation bred Quarter horse...NOT fun.) ;)

I finally just sort of flung myself off sideways - luckily shes a smallish horse & stands like a rock. She also moves like a rock, which is why I got on her in the first place.....I was tempted to use the mounting block but I just couldn't bring myself to set a bad example for a student!

Good thing I'm carrying this baby really high - I could have been stuck up there forever!

Why is a mounting block considered a bad example?

I've been using one for years because I had a bad back injury when I was 30, which resulted in limited hip/leg mobility on my left side.

I've heard that it's actually easier on a horse's back not to be yanked to one side, as they are when mounted from the ground.

I thought maybe someone just handed you a laptop so you could post to COTH.

I think she means using a mounting block to dismount, which can be dangerous if you miss the block and fall. :)

yes, I meant getting off using the mounting block - I couldn't have gotten up there without one!

Oh, I misunderstood. Yep, I don't use a mounting block to dismount either. I'm not as graceful getting off the horse as I used to be, but I can still get myself on the ground. ;)

Congrats on the new baby. I don't know as I'd be brave enough to climb on a horse at 6 months pregnant, though. I can be a weenie!
