I got to thinking about the so-called carbon footprint, and the evil cow conspiracy to pollute the planet with methane, and from there it wasn't much of a jump to the methane spewing gelding.

I have to remind myself to stay to the side, not downwind.

Is there some kind of study for this? If not, there ought to be.

Sorry to deviate, but I watch the old All Creatures Great & Small series on NetFlix as I surf the web. Large screen monitor, I just split my monitor. Anyway, today was a hysterical episode, where a vet was to bleed off bloat from a cow right as the farmer struck a match, & of course it POOFED!

To keep it horse related, may I suggest never to light a match at Triggers bumm. ;)

Shhh! Don't spread this around, or those greedy inside-the-beltway idiots will try to tax our horses!

The cap and trade bill is being discussed right now and, for now, the methane output of herbivores is exempt from the regulations being mentioned, so those with horses won't have to pay a carbon print tax on their horses.:)

That, of course, is subject to change, depending on what else those for these regulations have to trade with those against, as they keep debating how the final bills should be passed.;)

T

So is the methane output of omnivores exempted too?

OK, folks, swallow that coffee and bump the sleeping cat off your lap -- or have the screen cleaner and iodine handy!

Environmentalism: As polls show belief in global warming is dropping, a new study suggests that dogs and cats, like people, are a plague upon the earth. They say people should have edible pets. Here, kitty, kitty...

...scientists also have diminished man's role in affecting the climate, forcing the warm-mongers among us to come up with even more unbelievable cause for the climate change you will shovel off your driveway. Now, we are told, it's all Fido's and Fifi's fault.

Anthony Watts reports on his Web site WattsUpWithThat on a study by Victoria University (New Zealand) professors Brenda and Robert Vale, architects who specialize in sustainable living.

They advise in the study, published in New Scientist and in their new book, "Time To Eat The Dog" (we are not making this up), that because of the impact of pets on the earth, people should have pets that are edible...

So what's a horse's equivalent? A coal-fired generating plant? A politician's mouth?

Frank B, shame on you for bursting the enviromentalist's bubble.

Seriously, those topics are just diversions of real world trade politics.
Cap and trade is a catchy word for the countries like the USA giving up what make us better than most, at a serious cost to our economy and so standard of living and leaving free other countries to advance at our cost.

We better don't kid ourselves, because there is considerably more behind this than trying to save this planet and yes, our horses and pets are also part of the perceived problem.

back to the original question, if volume (as in decibels), frequency, and duration correlate to the methane buttprint then Sadie should be voted off the planet. Hawk, not so much.

True fact! Kangaroos don't emit any methane when they fart. ;) I don't know why I know this. :)

my pony however, every stride... especially when I am trying to impress someone.

I have one who always always always manages to push one out when I'm behind him. I ask him why he must do that to me EVERY TIME and he just looks away.

Him along with those other envirofascists that are insisting we give up our pets for chickens. Yeah...just come and try taking them away. Me, the 4 dogs and the 20 gauge will be waitin fer ya

As a side note, the new FDA rules that went into effect this past April requiring spinal cord and brain removal before processing, for any cow over 30 months old, has caused a 75% drop in dead cow pick ups in our area. In order to comply with the new regulation the cost to pick up a dead cow in that age range went up to $127 verses the old fee of $27 for any age bovine.

We may giggle at a methane tax on our ponies but I wouldn't put it past certain politicians looking to increase their voting base. Horse ownership is ripe for class warfare, ie: tax the rich. ;)
