Anyone have any favorite places to buy butt-bar pads (or ideas on how to make home-made versions) for the horse trailer? The manufacturer's prices just seemed alittle too high.
TIA!

Pipe insulation from the hardware store, couple layers, with a cover works well. Cover could be a taped on towel or piece of vinyl.
Pool noodles have been mentioned by others as good cover for butt bars. Cheap, thick padding, easy on or off.
Packing foam for heavy objects, if you know someone working in a warehouse. Foam is tossed when the items are unpacked. Like the squishy corners that some electronics come with on the corners.
Seems like some catalog sold covers and foam for the trailer bars. Have you checked with any trailer dealers about ordering replacement covers? Upholstry shop could make you a zippered vinyl cover, if you don't sew stuff yourself.

I used the Pool noodle idea, cost $1.00 for two, plus the roll of duct tape. They are thicker than the pipe insulation, and if you're handy with a sewing machine, you can make covers to 'pretty' it up.

I used neoprene pipe insulation from the hardware store, then wrapped the entire thing with duct tape. I haven't made "covers" for them yet, as it's just one more thing I'd have to clean. I just wrap my butt bars with plastic wrap and then just replace the plastic as it gets dirty.

Try your local foam supplier, or a yacht chandler, or an upholstery place; they might do the job for you, or be able to recommend someone else who can. The other place to try is car dealerships - they sometimes know someone who fixes upholstery.

Copy these - use 1" x 24" x 18" foam (for rounded bars) from the hobby / sewing store / Wal Mart then cover with vinyl sleeves - or use pipe insulation with duct tape or zip ties
