I have to say my Budweiser yearling ... Belcort has turned into such a nice horse. He was a late foal in 2008, so he has just been hanging around growing up. Needless to say he has grown into his beautiful long neck!
"Buddy" made his debut today in the PA Hunter Breeders Futurity and not only did he win the colts and geldings class, but he was the overall Yearling Futurity Champion. That's 3 years in a row for my horses!

Anyway, Budweiser sure seems to produce some really nice horses that jump the moon. I would love to know who has some of his offspring.

Here's the stallion link http://www.kitaralodge.com/index.htm

Knowing when to hold 'em is such an art. So many people show their babies when they should keep them in the barn. Sounds like you knew exactly when he would be ready. Great job!

They are both really lovely.

Nice to be hearing about Budweiser… we’d wondered what had become of him. Seems that one minute we were watching his progression on Heike’s videos (both jumping and a short clip with Stephen Peters) and the next minute he was completely gone. Did he go to Australia, or was that Rhythm and Blues?

How well attended was the show overall?

We've been seeing some really soft numbers overall at most of the shows, with the only decent numbers at the usual shows like Devon and Warrenton and Upperville

Was there a good weanling and yearling turnout?

I was not there for the weanling show the week before, but I heard the numbers were not bad.
As far as the yearlings there were a total of 7 horses, amd more ponies I believe. HB turnout has been very light all year around here. It was a good show to debut my yearling... 1. because he is finally growing into himself. 2. the futurity was held at the farm where my young horses are stabled.
BUT... I mainly did it for the photo opportunity. :D

Was that 7 yearlings in total (colt, geldings and fillies) or 7 yearling colts and geldings?

7 yearling colts would be a decent turnout in anyone's books and a good win as well

While 7 yearling colts/gelding would be a decent turnout, as I'm sure everyone knows, most are finished showing by this time of the year. I think it's more about Bill waiting until his yearling was ready and (finally had an opportunity to get some pictures which we STILL are waiting for........;)) and letting the baby grow into himself than caring how many are in his class.

I have an 8 year old who is a darling. 16.2h gelding. I'll show him 3rd level soon, but am getting his mediums better. His medium trot tends to be like a jack hammer, though it is improving!

I am impaired computerwise, so don't have a link to a photo site. Thus I put him on my USER PROFILE PHOTO.

Lovely colt.

A friend had a Bud filly in his first foal crop. She ended up with wobblers syndrome -- she was REALLY big and had a long neck.

Fortunately she survived and has a home as a pet.

Very sweet.

I imagine there are many horse who get wobblers that we never hear about - too bad, Oakstable, about your friend's Budweiser  - but since "wobblers" is such a generic term for any cervical spine issue that causes "wobbling" behind, unless there are a whole lot more cases reported from Bud offspring (and gad, what about the mare?), I don't think there is a case here about Budweiser as a sire, if that was your point??

Not really sure why you felt the need to rain on this lovely colt's parade and the owner's pride in this very good colt....? The thread title is calling all FANS.

I have had many young ones that were big and had corresponding long necks (which I happen to love and look for, and so obviously do judges). NONE of them got wobblers. I have seen small horses get wobblers.

Jeez talk about over reacting.

Who?

The one who posted the non-sequitor about the "friend" with the wobbler foal or all those who (quite rightly) asked whether she mentioned that to put a damper on the positive comments, or just as a random comment?

Can't be too careful, what with every inuendo habitually magnified beyond reason around here.

I think it's been pretty well established in recent years that "wobbling" is a symptom of a wide range of neuro issues caused by an equally wide range of factors, from injury to disease vectors.

When there was no method or research upon which to base a diagnosis, a neuro horse was called a "wobbler." Now we know the symptoms can arise from Lymes, EPM, several varieties of encephalitis, WNV, kissing spine, sacroiliac abnormality, OCD (a question of management during growth stages) etc...etc...

So...yeah, what WAS the point?

I'm fortunate to have two Budweiser daughters since he landed in Australia. A 16.2hh rising 3yo chestnut and a 16.1hh rising 2yo grey filly. Both are super movers though the 2yo has international class dressage movement. Both are out of Holsteiner mares and are very elegant, tall but not quite as heavy as Buddy.
