So, yes to padding the butt bars and the breast bars, but what do people think about padding the sides of the trailer (this is a one-horse trailer that's 51 inches wide, so there's plenty of room for side bumper pads)?
TIA!

When my Mikey had bashed his way through his third divider, I finally got smart and bought padding for my trailer. I got the coolest thing from Dandy Products. It was a U-shaped pad with 2 seams so it would fold. The covering was thick rip stop stuff, waterproof, with grommets for bolts, snap hooks, etc. I attached one side to the trailer wall with bolts. The rest of the padding flopped out of the trailer while I loaded the horse then when he was in, that remaining part folded in around his rear end, along his side and attached at the front of the divider. He was virtually wrapped in foam. It was fabulous. Once his EPSM was 'under control' and he bashed less, I cut the padding at the seam, leaving the bolted section still attached. Everyone who rides on that side now quite likes the squishy wall. The pad is the height of the top of the divider and goes to the floor.

Thanks, Riverbend. I looked at the Dandy Products website and that "envelope" does look very comfy! It's more than we need, but I'm checking out their stall padding... maybe that would be the next best thing.

Sharon,
I got these for my stock trailer - inexpensive and really do the trick:

They've been in use for 12 years and still look great - no rips, tears, punctures, etc.

My old two horse straight load was padded all the way around - I can't imagine hauling in one that isn't.
