Getting a new mid-weight turnout, and have seen a thinsulate one, which is supposed to offer the same g. of fill (200g.). Has anyone used these??? It would be lighter.....thanks for any opinions.....Can't believe it's this time of year again. Don't even mention the "w" word.

I have used turnouts with Thinsulate...and I use thinsulate stable blankets. Works great. Lightweight and warm. As long as you have a good brand I think it is a good option. Careful washing them though.

I have the Smartpak Thinsulate blanket - which is supposed to be comparable to a midweight. I love it b/c its so light it feels like a lightweight turnout and my horse stays nice and warm.

It held up wonderfully last winter and looks pretty much brand new...

I have the Smartpak thinsulate blanket with waterproof shell. Love it! Has laundered well when I've sent it out to the professional blanket service. It's actually pretty toasty and I didn't even use my heavyweight last winter.
