So I am off to pick up my new broodie in 2 weeks . Her owner however asked if I prefered her to be weaned prior to me coming or just wean them by me taking the mare away. It would of course be easier for the owner if I just took the mare, but she is willing to wean now.
Any advice? I know weaning and a move (in the same day) will be stressful so would it be better if they were just weaned now? The trailer ride is about 4-5 hours.
TIA!

Last year, I did wean and move on the same day, albeit the trailer ride was only 1 h 30. It worked very well on my end (the mare's end). As far as I know, it worked well on the filly end too!

Anybody do it the other way around, move the weanling, leave the mare?

Have done both. Really think that it is easies on both horses if they cannot even hear each other ...thus I really tend to like "weaning by loading both and then putting the mare back in the barn!"
