I had the best lesson tonight! My trainer thought she would try something new and got on my horse for the first 15 minutes of my hour. She got him sensitive to the leg, and finished getting him jazzed up by doing a line of two tempis with him. I got on and he felt really good, nice and forward and coming over his back, he had a few moments of resistance, but I was able to make the correction and do it with subtly. My trainer let me do flying changes for the first time in my lesson, I know how to do changes the hunter/jumper way, it was a challenge for my brain to think about using left rein and left leg and right leg and right rein, instead of diagonal aids. But what was even more exciting is as we were talking finishing the lesson my trainer made the comment "once we get you riding in collected canter the change will come much better". I just showed training level this year and I'm excited that my trainer sees collected canter and flying changes in my new future! Also, today is my one year anniversary of having Werther, and when we bought him I really struggled to even get the canter at all, I feel like we have come a long way!

Congrats! There is nothing better than the feeling of getting off your horse tired and sweaty and feeling like you really accomplished something!! Its almost like a high! :)

congrats on the great lesson. I LOVE it when you can walk away feeling like you'd had a "light-bulb" moment. And changes?? SWEEEEET. My horse knows how, but I haven't tried yet -- we're still working on cantering without taking off in random directions.... Gotta be a rider flaw, but I'll get it fixed sooner or later. :)
Looking forward to seeing you come out next summer at a higher level, and if there's a goofy short round woman near you in the stabling with a bay TB mare with a gorgeous face -- introduce yourself. It might be me!!
