I am so in line if she needs someone to free lease her horse while she is expecting! :D
Talk about some heavy duty jumping genetics.

Funny - because I watched her fall at spruce meadows and I said to my husband - something is not right with her - maybe she is preggers - hah I was right.
Congratulations to the parents to be

I wonder if she found out at the hospital in Calgary after that fall. Probably did blood tests etc. The next day she did the CN, but looked like she should have sat out that day. Not the typical Meredith riding.
She is a bit spooky about Spruce Meadows. had another bad fall a couple years ago. She said she is concern about Spruce and her confidence.
Well, congrats. Now get off your horses and be a good expectant mom.

I doubt it. Says the baby is due in February, so surely she knew before Spruce Meadows. And I don't think its up to anyone else to tell her when to stop riding, although I could certainly understand if she didn't want to be riding such tempermental horses as Shutterfly and Checkmate while pregnant.

Of course, you'll always get different answers from different doctors, but mine has told me that it's okay to ride up until the end of my first trimester, but by no means beyond that timeframe. The baby is very well protected for the first three months, but after that, there's a little less "padding" to cushion a fall. To each his own.
Now, Nicki Shahinian-Simpson has a video posted on her website of her taking a pretty bad fall while she was five months pregnant with her son, so I guess anything is possible. Baby was fine, as I think he is a healthy happy grade school aged kid now...
Congrats to Meredith - and imagine the ponies that kid will have!

What if the kid wants to ride *gasps* western?
Two of the trainers at our barn have ridden flatting only while pregnant on horses they knew were "safe". In fact, one is due in February and is still out there riding around. It's a personal choice since horses are clearly a dangerous sport but one we love so its hard to just go groom for 10-11 months.

My trainer rode until she was about 7 months preggo. She had to stop because the belly was too big to get up in the saddle!

I wonder if she will now also back Jessica Curten et al in their attempts to allow "leave of abcense" for female riders looking to start a family.
As I have understood it a few female riders in Europe are lobbying to allow girls a "freeze" on their world ranking points in order to allow them some time off to have a baby without loosing their ranking. The ranking points are important when it comes to getting invitations to big shows.
Be great for them if she got in on the topic.
