I don't think it's going to reach Corona, barring any major changes. If it did it would be by McKinley(ish). It looked like it was down but it just popped back up on the other side of the giant pumpkin.

News is saying it started by La Sierra.

NOT GOOD. Norco is too close for comfort- sending jingles over the hill!!!!

Norco fire in OP is not the same as the Ventura fire noted a few posts later. Which makes two new fires and they still don't have the old one fully contained...

just heard on KNX 1070 that the Norco fire now has another front. Waiting anxiously for updates from my friends in the area. How close is it to Ingalls? On the map it doesn't look that far. I was at Ingalls 2 weeks ago for a show- the hills looked pretty dry:no:

We need to fold the country somewhere around Kansas so all the water in Atlanta lands on southern California.

Jingles to all at risk. No major hurricanes, and still a bad disaster season.

I'll delete my thread so this is the main one. I watched the first puff of smoke at 10:30 or so while dragging my arena. It looked like happy camp from my pov but my weekend helper lives there and said they are OK.... lots of smoke and close enough to see flames but no evacuations yet.

Oh Dear. The last time I saw, Happy Camp is filled with fuel-dried up grass.

I didn't realize it is so windy down there. Those poor firefighters, to be walking around with all that gear in this heat..

But we always know that when there's a Santa Ana that this is going to happen somewhere if not in many locations. All we can do is be smarter than we typically are and say many prayers.

they are saying the big fire in ventura may have been started on a ranch- spontaneous combustion in a manure pile. Lots of new evacuations for all of the fires.

Meaning, it's now on the east side of the 23? I can't seem to get much info (at work).

A friend of mine boarded her horses out there until she moved to Montana 3 weeks ago. Her former barn evacuated the horses earlier. Not long ago the barn manager was given the order to get out herself.

The last time fire went through there, they didn't have time to evacuate the horse and fought the fire with hoses.

Many, many jingles to those affected.

Crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Southern California Thoroughbred Rescue is in Norco.
She posts here too, I think under Blueshadow. I just tried to call her and got no answer.
Does anyone know if she is o.k. or may need help with getting horses out?

No wind and skies clearing to blue, the fire here seems to be controlled.

I'm not sure about the surrounding area except for a few people that decided to voluntarily evacuate their horses. I remember the wind driven fires here a few years ago and fortunately this does not seem like one of them.
Prayers always for the firefighters, how they go out in the heat, smoke and uncertain terrain is an everyday act of heroism.

Luvmytbs, I was at work today, left early this morning, and the first I heard of the fire was your message on my phone at 6,30 this evening. Checked in at home, and all was well. The fire apparently started on the hills behind my home, and because the winds were strong moved quickly south... They put it out very quickly (we do have great support here - airdrop helicopter is just down in Chino); one house or structure and 17 acres destroyed, and thankfully as far as I know no humans or their animals harmed.

But now I have your phone number, and that's the very best part :)

Phew, I am glad you and the horses are o.k. Blueshadow. :)

Between the flood in GA and the fires in CA this is one scary week for all animals and people in those areas.

Map of Ventura fire shows mandatory evacuations of Waters Rd., which is lined with stables, and adjacent to Hilda Gurney's place. Jenny Martin has a barn right near the 23. Giacopuzzi clinic nearby. Roads around there are eucalyptus lined, with lots of citrus, which may be why they're using sense and bringing in aircraft. If it crosses the 118 it will be major major.

I moved my horse out of the Waters Rd area yesterday - most everyone in that area seems to have relocated, but there may be a few holdouts. The fire looked ominously close late last night - we'll see what today's wind brings.

It appears now that the roads are closed north of 118 from Balcom Cyn to Bradley Rd - that's a LOT of horses, and two horse hospitals, so keep those fingers crossed that they can get a handle on it soon!!

I drove to happy camp today after talking my way through some road blocks. That area seems safe with tons of air support flying overhead.
I can still see a lot of smoke N. west in the Somis area and I have heard that it is burning toward Santa Paula. Fingers crossed that the winds remain fairly calm and the firefighters can get it under control quickly.
The temperatures are very warm still, the gauge in my crossties (in the shade) said 95 at 3 pm.

I heard that Hilda had moved her horses back, but then the fire came back her way and they were cutting down fences to let the horses go. Hope they are all okay.

We drove through the area-our way home from LA-there was alot of smoke and they were saying 9700 acres burned with 20% containment-a huge leap from teh 1500 when we went to bed last night! This was about 10 this morning. Hopefully they have more contained by now. I knew Hilda was in that area and was wondering how she was fairing. It's a very horsey area with alot of barns/trainers/etc. Hopefully they're getting it under control and everyones ok.

Spirit Equestrian at Balcom Canyon/Bradley have evacuated, and Mission Pacific is on alert. Lots of small private places in that area, too. I heard Hilda had evacuated, but I don't know about Jan Ebeling.

Where do they evacuate to? Is there a big fairgrounds area up in Ventura?

This morning I watched 4 helicopters dropping water a few hundred yards north of Spirit Equestrian. They kept the fire in the brush and made sure that it didn't get to our friends home under construction (just plywood and boards and sure to go up like a bomb.)

Lots of air support really kept this fire mostly confined to the brush. They even gave a valiant effort to keep it out of orchards.

We ran firehose around the house and barn to take care of spot fires, but didn't have any. Looks like we made it for another year.

There is a fairgrounds in Ventura. Some have gone there, others have gone to other barns out of harms way (more on the Simi side) and some have gone to barns in Santa Rosa Valley. Those are the places that I know of anyway.

You are the person I have been most concerned about. I know that many stables have evacuated in the surrounding area.. the overhead support seems good, but I have a barn close by.

I spoke to somebody who works at Kent Sullivan's new hospital and they have not evacuated even though it is mandatory. She said they have a horse in the ICU and have nowhere to bring it. scary. I've been hanging out at Castlerock the past two days watching the fire grow by Moorpark College. If by any chance it jumps the 118, my friend and I are out of there with our combined 3 horses.
