I teach lessons small time. I usually get beginners or people who just want to ride for fun but recently i started teached a group of 3 girls who want to show. They're all decent riders and I am looking forward to hitting the local show circuits next summer. I will NOT be taking them to A shows and will NOT be charging them like I am. However i do need to charge enough to make it worth my time and effort. Can anyone tell me what your trainer charges for trainers fees, what that includes, and what level of shows you do?

Growing up i paid $50/day for up to A shows but i fed, cleaned my own stall, swept aisles, groomed etc etc all myself. All my trainer did was haul me there, school me, and put me in the ring. He only got on my horse once at a show and i think that was b/c he wanted to ride around, not b/c he actually trained my horse (horse was perfect, i was the one with issues lol).

I charge $25 day fee, we go to some large local circuits, "C" shows, breed shows etc. THis is basically coaching, going over courses, schooling etc. Hauling is extra. If needed I will get on and school a horse but not something I do a lot, as I expect my students to be able to handle their hroses well before going to a show.

I charge $100 plus hauling. I only school the horse if absolutely necessary. It's not my show, it's theirs. However if needed I'm more than happy to hop on a mount and work it out for them.

Really think about what amount of money you need to really make ti worth your time. Leaving so early in the morning, standing around in the heat all day, dealing with all the fun that comes with showing. Losing a day of your weekend if you have a full-time job in addition to this.

When my DD shows the trainer charges a day fee of $75. This is for coaching, walking courses, etc. Hauling and grooming are charged separately.

There was recently a thread about this - if you can find it in a search, a lot of people had responded.

I pay $25 per day, and that includes my trainer coaching me, riding if necessary, she does the AM feeding before we all get there, and usually cleans the stalls for us also. Hauling is separate, as is use of school horses. This is for a local H/J show circuit.

I usually pay the cost of a lesson. But, I make sure I only show if more than just myself is going so that its making it worth my trainers time.

I can definatly understand charging say, the cost of a lesson per kid, if your bringing more than one kid. If your only bringing one rider, it may be important to say charge the cost of two lessons. I know that I have no problem with that idea, if I'm going to a show thats going to take up 4 hours (give or take) of my trainers time, and there are four of us going, then she is making four hours worth of lessons. So, I would say in general that charging one rate per rider at a show with multiple riders vs. charging say 2x that amount for just one rider.

(I know dependent on what area you're in, lesson costs vary drasticly which is why I'm not saying "Charge $XX.XX")
