They are usually made of neoprene or something that doesnt really breath too well. Mainly used to "slim" up a neck. They also make jowl sweats, and combinations, hence you can have a neck sweat, or one that is the full neck, and hood type. More prevalent in QH or breed shows where people are focused on Halter classes. I would guess that some hunter folks also would maybe use them for in hand or model classes. Ive never personally seen any used at hunter shows though.

Definately mostly used for halter horses for the long slim neck look, but also for riding horses with fat around the throat area. They are worn during or immediately after exercise and left on for 45 minutes or so until no longer sweating underneath. A Listerine and glycerine mix often is used under the sweat for more effectiveness. Back when I did halter horses, I even had a blow-up air filled full neck sweat, filled and heated by a hair dryer, for very cold weather. I actually used it in my small barn in January so I could stand my halter gelding up in the Grand-Reserve lineup with the "Big Dogs" (trainers, not horses) at the Winter Stock Show. Can't believe I did all that.
