Mr. Tom, a Kamp A-Kom-Plish lesson horse who passed away earlier this year, has been featured in Riding Instructor Magazine's honor roll.
My friend Doria is the equestrian director at Kamp. When the leasing company showed her Tom as a lesson horse prospect, she immediately recognized him from a riding camp she'd worked at years ago. He was older and worse for the wear, but she couldn't pass up an old friend. Over the next three years Tom provided faithful service. I saw him in action and you couldn't ask for a quieter, more patient horse. Eventually the students raised enough funds to buy Tom and his friend Frosty from the leasing company. Tom had plenty of food, warm blankets, a cozy stall, and a grassy field until the end.
Tom's article is featured on pages 23 - 24: Riding Instructor Magazine (http://www.riding-instructor.com/magazine/archives/Riding_Instructor_Fall_2009.pdf) It brought tears to my eyes, not only remembering Tom, but remembering all those faithful school horses that have gone over the bridge.
