We have had steady rain for about 8 days. So far, it hasn't been an issue-just wet. Then it comes on very quickly when creeks or low lying areas get full/ saturated. You go from looking out and it being normal to no driveway or a barn underwater in less than an hour. They are estimating rainfall at 4 inches per hour minimum. People in low areas know, but by the time they realize it could be a problem... it's a HUGE problem. Plus, in my case, my property is doing ok. Nothing too horrible. But, half of my road collapsed. You can barely get in or out- and NOT with a horse trailer for sure. The firemen came around tonight knocking on doors and telling us to stay put.

I was just watching a clip on cnn.com and the reporter mentioned that horses were loose in his neighbourhood (Atlanta). Let's hope the horse regained his footing and is now in a field away from the flood or visiting a new neighbourhood.

I have not heard anything yet this morning. As of 10:00 last night he was still missing. There are acres of woods that surround the property so I am hoping he is out there. I plan on calling at 9:00 but the barn has terrible cell reception. If I can make it to her barn I will go and help search. I will update when I hear something. Thanks for all the prayers. Hopefully this will turn out as a success story.
BTW how do I update the title of the thread on the main page? That way when I have news I can let ya'll know.

Major jingles! It's been terrible here. On one of the local news stations last night, there was a short clip on people moving horses away from the rising waters. Someone mentioned that they knew of another person who had had eight horses swept away. . .
Here's hoping all are found with nothing worse than a few minor bumps. But yes, they can swim pretty well as a rule and their instincts are much better than ours.

A friend of mine bought a horse that had been swept away in flood waters. She posts on here but I can't completely remember the story. Something that he had been swept out of the stall/pasture and was missing for several days. The then owners found him as he had gotten tangled in barb wire. He had a pretty nasty looking wound on his hock that to this day like 10 years later still has lots of scar tissue and flakes and can crack open a bit. That being said the horse went up through advanced and was quite the trooper! I would have thought he would have a fear of water after that, but he didn't. Hopefully your friend can wind up with the same good outcome.

I was going to start a thread about this but SpotNNot beat me to it.
Karen is my cousin. I've ridden Rico before and he is a real sweetie. Karen got him as a greenie and has made great progress with him. He is her first horse and the pride and joy of Karen and her daughter. I am not in the GA area, but I get periodic updates via facebook and videos on youtube. I was in tears reading Karen's email this morning.
I will forward this thread to her, I'm sure it will warm her heart to know that so many people are sending prayers and jingles.

I did speak with karen today. I was unable to help search since our well pump died and we have to fix it. However Karen said still no news on poor Rico. They may do a search buy air to try and find him. There were three horses missing, one was found, one died and Rico. I am in shock and feel such sadness for her. She adores him and he does her. It is such a horrible situation. Thanks again for your prayers and support.

Spotnnot,
Thanks for the update. I have emailed Karen, but figured she is probably not by her computer but out searching for Rico. I am at work, where my cell phone reception is dicey and the university phones don't allow long distance calls without a code (I am a lowly peon, so I don't have the code). I have been preoccupied all day long with this, and will call Karen tonight to let her know she's in my thoughts.

From Karens facebook posting,
Hey..BAD NEWS>>>Willowbrook flooded beyond belief. RIco is still missing
!!! Had 2 planes inthe air looking for him today. No luck. Bear drowned in the creek and Bud was found munching on grass downstream onthe other side of the creek. No... fencing left. Terri almost drowned...stuck in his trailer...spent the night hanging on for his life up in a big tree. over 6 feet water inthe barn. Stll door found thousands of feet down the creek. Terris trailer and truck got carried by the water over by the big arena..as well as my horse trailer...it went about the lenghts of 2 foot ball fields or longer . Muddy muddy mess. Fields covered by 1-3 feet of sand. Please pray for Rico's safe return!!!
I am so sad the planes did not see him.

I have not spoken with Karen, tried calling her last night and got her voicemail. Our family is a large one (French Catholic, lots of aunts, uncles, sibs and cousins;)), so I understand if it is too much to keep repeating the story to everyone, especially when it's bad news.
I did get an email from Karen late last night. She is exhausted and has barely slept or eaten in 2 days. She is very touched by all the jingles and prayers (I sent her the link to this thread). The search continues today.
Sorry I don't have better news. Willowbrook was a gorgeous facility and Leslie and her sons are just the nicest people. I remember watching Leslie school a young warmblood (don't remember the name, but he was a tall, black or dark brown gelding, just beautiful). She was so vocal with her praise, you could hear it across the farm and it was so moving to see the horse respond.

This is so tragic. The BO, Leslie O'Neal Olsen, is my cousin and we grew up as riding buddies and back-door neighbors. Ironically, one of my happiest childhood memories is when Leslie and I used to swim our horses in the farm pond between our houses. Many jingles that Rico can swim.
I can't imagine the devastation of the farm. It was such a beautiful place. I was just in GA last week to see my mother and almost went out to Villa Rica to drop in on Leslie. Wish I had...

still jingling like crazy. On a good note, no buzzards have been flying around overhead indicating death so..................................things are still looking good. Yup, he could be hung up or stuck somewhere but..................he can live for a while that way and with lots of people looking for him, he should be found. Villa Rica is a busy place, not a lot of woods to really hide out in for any length of time.

Well I spent some time with Karen today helping her look and hang up posters.
It is so sad. The woods are so filled with debris that there is no way a 4-wheeler or horse could be used to search. We spoke to everyone we saw to ask them to keep a lookout for Rico. We are hoping he found his way into one of the many pastures in the area and maybe he will be noticed soon. There is so much mud and devistation. Some of the people we talked to said the wall of water was up to 20 feet in some areas. Very sad. We also found out that someone is putting out flyers that 3 other horses are missing. I do not know who owns them but if you are in the area keep an eye out.
I went to the farm and it is horrible. The rings have huge holes and ruts in them. The stalls are piled with mud. Debris is everywhere.
Keeping praying!

The GA national guard has been activated and is out helping, but people need to contact them about missing animals, as they will be turning them in to local humane societies. If people will call up to the agriculture dept at the capitol building, the people there can tell missing horse owners where animals are being taken in each county.
