Does anyone use these in the winter? If so..
1. Are they really water proof?
2. Do they run true to size or small/large (clarify if you are wearing with a ton of socks!)
3. Are they acceptable for showing indoors?

If you don't like these books, please suggest a low to mid-range priced pair you prefer and state why!

Thanks so much! My first winter riding in a very cold state!

There was another recent thread on these boots.

I have them and love them. Zero break in time, very soft and:

1. Totally waterproof
2. They run true to size with standard zocks
3. I would think they would be ok for showing indoors, they look very nice

Love, love, LOVE these boots. Probably the best footwear purchase I ever made. Zero break in time, completely waterproof and very toasty for cold weather riding, barn work, etc. I think they would be acceptable for a winter schooling show too.

Have them and love them -- totally waterproof so far (wore them all of one winter, and not so much this last winter as my horse was mostly off). Found that they were true to size -- I just wear regular socks and wore the same size that I wear in other Ariat boots. I am a bit torn on whether they are show-worthy. Certainly local/schooling and clinics, but the leather doesn't seem to polish up as well as other boots, and I found that they ran a bit short (I'm short and my regular height Ariat Crownes fit great, but the Bromonts seem a tad shorter). So if you are talking "Indoors" as I take it, not sure they would pass muster. But then again, mine have been beat-up and not well taken care of since I use them to ride and groom and everything else (not like my good boots), so if you buy new and take care of them better, they might be all right.

And, if you are like me, you'll ride better with warm toes!

I have these and am not really wild about them.

Pluses... They are warmer than normal field boots and do have a more traditional look than some winter riding boots. They are very comfortable to wear. I do wear them for shows in the winter, but mostly smaller shows where some people wear gaiters rather than tall boots.

Minuses... They are a little sloppy looking and I would only wear them for big shows in the very coldest weather. They are not as warm as you might expect so for everyday riding something else might be better. My feet still get cold wearing these boots.

Have you tried wearing Smart Wool socks with them? I find that makes a huge difference, I don't wear anything else all winter, and one pair is sufficient, no layering necessary.

I love these boots but would love them a lot more if Ariat would make them in more sizes. I have tall-slim Ariat Crowne Pros for shows and they fit great, but the Bromont only comes in regular height, regular and wide calf. So they are a bit too wide for me - but I could live with that. Unfortunately, they are definitely too short, so I wouldn't feel I could really show in them over the winter without feeling very conspicuous. However, if they fit better, I would. I know many people who have them, and they look fine to show in, in my opinion, as long as you don't have tall, skinny calves like mine. They are very warm, no break-in, and less bulky than most winter boots.

I didn't like the canvas on the inside calf and felt for the price you pay you should get leather all the way around. I'm pretty short and they were almost too short on me.

I love mine, but then the zipper broke after less than three months of riding in them, so I'm a bit disappointed . . . fortunately the place that sold me the boots is taking care of replacing or repairing them. But, really, for nearly $300, they should last more than three months.

I love mine. Very comfortable right out of the box, and toasty warm. I've done chores in the snow and my unheated barn while wearing them, and I foxhunt in them. Galloping when it's below freezing for a few hours is a good test of warmth, and they certainly passed. They are much nicer looking than any other "winter" tall boots I've seen. I would wear them at schooling/unrated shows, probably even B/C/D rated....not A. Suffer and put on your nice stuff ;)
