Commonly used on racehorses, other hardworking horses, or those with injury.
Has anyone used them? They're expensive but guaranteed to work. I'd try just about anything for my OTTB who was recently diagnosed with a bone spavin - just thought I'd see if anyone had any experience with them!

I used it 2 yrs ago when my tb got tangled up in a wire fence and nearly severed the joint in half! How he managed not to do so, is beyond me. Anyway, horse was extremely lame, and had to be stall rested for a while-another nightmare, another story. I started using OCD and got great results. The damaged area healed and other than being enlarged from the calcium deposit, he is as good as new. Give it a try, but stick w/ it for a long period of time. I think I did at least 4-6 months worth. Good Luck!

Thanks for the information- glad your horse is ok! What made you pick OCD pellets? What makes them different from other joint supplements? And finally, did you do maintenance dosage or maximum dosage? Thanks again!

Look at Evergreen Equine's Osteo-Aide. It has more of the products in it than OCD pellets has. Works great & the horses eat it right out of your hand.

My vet had recommended this or something with silicone in it for a foal of mine with crooked legs. I'm also curious about how it works. They appear to be having a promotion right now where you can get a free 2 month supply with any purchase. I might give it a try for 4 months. Does anyone know any other supplements that contain silicone? Thanks.

I thought they supplemented silica, not silicone. The Smart Pak supplement Smart Tendon (http://www.smartpakequine.com/productclass.aspx?productClassid=4659)is interesting...it has both silica and MSM.

I'm interested in hearing what others say too...I used in on my little guy, and then the vet had me start another treatment... I swear I thought he did better on it, and I am tempted to restart it...

I had a foal born windswept terribly and with a sow mouth. I put him on a product called Calphormin (for bones) and it did an amazing job. I expected the legs to strengthen and correct themselves with time, but never expected that mouth to be fixed and sure enough it's correct now. It has silicon in it (not silicone)

Right, silicon not silicone. What is silica?? I have a horse recovering from a ligament/tendon injury. I wonder if something like this would help that too? Other tendon supplements like the SmartPak SmartTendon?

I just happened to come upon an ad in a horse mag-don't remember which. I went to their website, and thought I might have some "healing hope" w/ this. I used the max dosage-a large tb. I think I got good results because of the dosage level. I am one who likes to hit a problem w/ everything I've got! The injury was that serious. This horse must have 9 lives, as he is been through every thing from ulcers to EPM, and keeps amazing me. If you do try OCD, keep us posted on the results!

OP- PM me with your information and I will ship you an unopened bucket I have.
I can't tell you if it worked or didn't work. I used it for two months along with Recovery EQ. He injured a hind suspensory and damaged the bone at the origin when he did it. I think the origin of the suspensory and the suspensory has healed but he is not just lame. We think it is now stifle. He won't block sound.
I decided to take him off of OCD pellets and the Recovery EQ and just switch to Smartpak Senior Flex instead.

Silicone, Silicon, Silica. (http://cti.itc.virginia.edu/%7Emeg3c/ethics/cases/dcc/dccpart2.html)
Here's an old thread: http://www.chronicleforums.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=191017
I also found a ton of links with this (http://www.google.com/webhp?tab=mw#hl=en&q=difference+silica+silicon+equine&aq=f&aqi=&aq=f&aqi=&oq=&fp=81e4948bcc83d300) Google search.
