All I know is that my homebred colt, QREDIT, just won the yearling colt class out of 23 colts! I am so excited for his owners, Chris and Michelle Coursin. (Qredit was the first born Quaterback over here and out of my mare Dream Rubina ; Dream of Glory - Rubinstein)
It's a big time for my mare Reina and her line; she had a son licensed out in Ca. by GOV last week - Sirringo by Sir Donnerhall and she is also dam to the 3 year old filly I took to the USDF SE USA Championships this weekend that won Grand Champion filly with a score of 89.4........ Qredit's dam is another of Reina's daughters.

Not trying to steal your thread, just trying to keep Devon results together. I do not know all the details but just received a call that Lauren Dearlove of Parade Field Farm in Lovettsville, VA WON the 3 year old Materiale class on Karan Schwencer's filly, Wild Rose by Widmark out of EM Berlina!!! Yay Lauren, congrats to you and Karan as well!!!

Quick up date while I have access to the hotel internet...

Scores are kind of all over the place - some really high, some really low, some are fair/good scores, some you scratch your head.... typical I suppose.

Maryannna's filly, Duet (that did so great in Atlanta last weekend) was a star again today. She won her class and was Res Champion. Really nice filly. (weanling) The Champ of that class was Fabrrege (I have that spelled wrong I'm sorry). Not sure who got any after that - I went to dinner. I only saw the 4 year old suitable to be a dressage horse. Not sure I would have placed the horses the way they were (like I said I had a few head scratch moments) but over all pretty nice horses.

Siegi - yes I brought Tatendrang. Scores were not great but THRILLED with the placing. Same judge will see him on Thursday - if Tate can get it together and chill by then maybe he'll improve in the scores also. Got to love a 3 year old breeding stallion the first time out after his first breeding season LOL. 13 in that class so not shabby.

Over all very nice horses. I think one of Caanan Ranch's fillies won her class - not sure which one though...

It's too bad it's not available via livestreaming!

Canaan has two Rascalino fillies, a two and a three year old, Rascaletta and Rascalla. Both incredible and both out of the same Londonderry mare. They also have a very, very nice yearling named Denecia by Donates. I wouldn't be surprised at any of them winning their classes at Devon!

Sorry, FHC ... I really want to be there, and I'm there in spirit.

WOW! Did you see the scores? The colt championship class ... only 4.2 points between the top and the bottom. This is so great, ... look at the classes! Many many ties ... we are really doing a good job—considering how long we've been at it—breeding.

Noticed that Alison Head tied with ISF in the Colt/Gelding 2009. Way to go, Alison! AND, Perfect Qredit walked away with the young horse championship.

And, not that I resent them (ISF & Hilltop) ... but it's nice to see some of the smaller breeders/owners walking away with the top prizes, as opposed to everything being Hilltop/ISF.

Mr. Joey is getting ready for his suitability class ... at 8:30 this morning. I'm sooooooo nervous! Tina, his trainer, has worked very very hard with him, so while he won't win the class (that's too much to hope for, after all, this is DEVON!!!) I'm so proud of them both I don't care where they place. I gave her the following instructions before she goes in the ring: HAVE A GOOD TIME!!!

P.S. I'm so nervous I'm shaking.

Wow, what a week for Judy Yancey! Her homebred filly Finale by Fuerst Heinrich out of Judy's wonderful Rubinstein daughter Reina H earned an 89.4(!!) to win her Filly class at the Sunshine Classic in Florida, was named Grand Champion Filly and SE Series Finals Champion Filly, won the Oldenburg IBC, and was High Score of show. A few days earlier, a stallion bred by Judy out of the same mare was licensed for Oldenburg breeding (Sirringo, sired by Sir Donnerhall), and now Qredit (Perfect Qredit), a Quaterback colt out of Reina H's daughter Dream of Glory won his colt class at Devon, was named Colt Champion and Young Horse Champion! Many kudos, Judy!:yes:;)

Finale is a gorgeous girl and I give Judy a high five and bravo, too for breeding her and showing her so beautifully last weekend. However, my homebred mare Wolkenstanza was high score of the SSHA show with an 89.9 in her Mare Class on Saturday. She won her Mare CH that day and on Sunday was SE Series Finals Champion Mare. That is okay, as her win was sort of in JY family, as I bought Wolkenstanza's mama Rohanna from Judy in 1999 when she was a newly imported yearling.

I believe Somer Hit, who won the 3 year old suitable and materiale classes, was bred by Mo Swanson. Was that mentioned? Did anyone see him go? I didn't get to the grounds early enuf and I didn't stay late enuf to see him.

You can see footage I took of Qredit in the yearling class at http://www.behindthebitblog.com/2009/09/perfect-qredit-quaterbck-yearling-colt.html -- apologies in advance for the camera work, I am getting used to my new camcorder. A few other runs are available too, including Delmar ISF, Rascaletta, Bellissa, Desert Rose, and tonight I'll post a few more -- mostly yearling colts and 2 year old fillies.

I definitely agree that kudos go to Hilltop and the team that prepared and presented Qredit. And to the Coursins who stayed on their path to get Qredit out to compete.
Qredit is not the only stunning individual that I have produced here over 34 (!) foal crops. It just goes to show that few get the chance to get out in the limelight. A breeder is lucky to have a foal go into the "right" hands, especially breeders such as myself, who must market their foal crops to stay in business. Such is the nature of horse business I guess.
But, this week I am grateful to the owners of Sirringo, for going the distance to stallion licensing (as they had with the colt Rasta that I sold them also) and to the Coursins for starting their path to success with Qredit.
Maybe Qredit's big win will help bring attention to the high quality of foals that are being produced in the USA, and increase awareness for buyers to look to home markets for their next superstar?? Qredit is THREE generations of USA bred, German Oldenburg registered foals.

I am so glad you pointed this out. I agree 100%, and had exactly the same thoughts when I saw the DAD results as I have often admired your youngsters over the years. So many stars have to align to get a big win like that. There are many very high quality youngsters available in this country but without very astute and knowledgeable management of their careers, they will not reach their potential.

Many, many congratulations for your youngsters' successes.

Sep. 24, 2009, 12:32 PM
Hah! You mean I look so YOUNG????!!!
My first foal crop was in 1975. I had a Canadian TB mare and a 1/2 Trakehner mare bred to my Trakehner stallion Beaute'. I produced a big liver mare (Lyrik) that went on to compete to Prix St. Georges and a handsome gelding that won many breed shows and went on to a successful hunter career, named Nimrod.
How many of you remember THAT stallion of mine? I had him from 1974 to 1981. He was a BIG black stallion, sire of Hadrian. Hadrian was chestnut out of my BLACK mare Helena. We laughed long about that one.

Not to change the subject, but can I ask a question. Are the judges at Devon allowed to ask you to not use your whip person or a follower in the ring, even if you know your horse will move better with someone chasing it?
And, I was wondering if it is OK for the judge to ask your horse's breeding prior to/ or while the horse is being judged?

Well, I didn't take a computer to DAD and am just back for the night.

As always, the quality of horses at Devon is amazing. Qredit was amazing, most especially his walk and actually the very best trot of the night was in the Victory lap for the Grand Championship. Michael said that even in practice Qredit had never trotted so large. Nancy Holowesko's Marmara is beautiful and a very lovely filly!:)

Somer Hit was super in the Materiale:yes::yes::yes:. I saw OMOM's Starbuck and he deserved his high placing:D. This afternoon I watched some LOVELY 4, 5 and 6 year old FEI tests. Nancy Holowesko must have the record for her 3 geldings out of the same mare all competing under saddle at Devon . All did very well and placed highly in the classes. Steinway in the 5 year old FEI test, Sabati in the Suitability and the FEI 4 year old, and Federer in the 3 year old Materiale and Suitability. The first 2 are full brothers, and the latter is a half-brother. Federer was only under saddle for 2.5 months and he was second and third in LARGE classes - REALLY amazing given that he was just started:yes:.

Lots of lovely horses all around. Looking forward to seeing Cabana Boy go in the next few days. He is the star of the NA bred - from DAD Champion to FEI young horse Champion at each age.

Marydell had a super Devon.
Our 09 filly, Fabrege MF (Fidertanz/Diora/DeNiro) now owned by ALice Tarjan, was second in her class and Reserve Foal Champion.
Duet MF (Don Principe/EM Rotina/Rotspon) won her class, was high score BITUSA Yearling filly and won the MAHB High Score award.
Fuerst Dancer(Fuerst Heinrich/EM Rotina/Rotspon) was 7th in her in hand class as well as Material. SHe is almost 5 months pregnant.
Marydell Farm's Breeders Group finished second behind Melanie Pai's group.
Today was our highlight though, DUet won the HAnoverian 2 and under class, Fabrege was third and Dancer won the 3 and older IBC.

Thanks to all thepeople who helped to make thispossible for us--Brendan Curtis, Hannes Bruning and his friend Tim, over from Germany, Bruce and Stacy Griffen for all their help. But MOST importantly, my husband who supports this crazy endevour of mine!!!

Thanks, Kris, for the update. Your fillies went well and Bellatesse is amazing. I'm sure you'll love it when you get her home. Congrats to Alice Tarjan, who bought Somer Hit from me as a foal (at the time his name was Sheldon). She did the riding in the materiale class as well as in the Suitable to Become a Dressage Horse, and she did a great job showing off those amazing gaits of his. He was the Born in the USA winner- my third time winning one of the BITUSA awards. Last year, I bred the BITUSA champion, so this year when I sold a horse, I sent in some sponsorship money. It is a great program, and much appreciated by us American breeders. Congrats to Michelle Coursin, Judy Yancey, and the gang at Hilltop for the show prep. Qredit was so mature looking (and acting) for a yearling!
Kris, can you tell me- how did Whirlpool do?

Kris, can you tell me- how did Whirlpool do?

Whirlpool did super yesterday!!:D I had rushed home and forgot to get my book from the trailer before I returned to DAD, so I don't have the exact scores and my memory isn't the best. But I believe that he got at least an 8.0 overall and the judges were VERY complementary on his complete and total workmanlike attitude and gave a high mark for rideability. He also got compliments from the judges on his uphill changes that were also very obedient, the medium trot and his very good walk. They said at times he needs to become more uphill but that he is a super riding horse. I also think that he was in first place until the end, when the Pik L offspring ridden by Mikaela did its test.

We had a very good show with our filly Limelight, she was the USDF Breeder's Champion East coast series Reserve Champion filly, she was also 2nd in the Hanoverian class and 4th in the yearling fillies.

She showed herself very well in the championship class. I thought she was a bit tense in the other 2, so considering that I was quite happy with how she did.

We were in a nice barn location overlooking the gold arena so were able to watch alot.

Mo, Whirlpool had a very nice test: T 7.8, W 7.9, C 7.5, Sub 8.5, Gen Im 8.4, Overall 8.02. The judge made a point of how correct his training is.

Loved Marmora and China Doll. The latter was listed as being bred in Germany and her sire is Cabaret. Therefore, I assume this is different from Hilltop's Cabaret and if so, what's the scoop on the sire of this lovely mare?

Was disappointed to see that in the Suitability and Materiale classes a number of riders rode like it was a saddle seat class - how fast and flashy can you go with front end action and rigid backs? And unfortunately, some of these horses placed well. Some of these placings I understood because their competition had much lower quality basic gaits and/or severe disobediances but others I disagreed with.

Our fledgling breeding program had a very good first time at Devon. Our Schiffon colt, Velluto, who is out of the first mare I purchased specifically to complement Schiffon, was 6th in the 2009 colts (out of 22 or 23) and won the Trakehner IBC. Scores were 79.1 and 78.5.

while up here visiting my sister i stopped by DAD... i was shocked at all the scratches & how small the classes were compared to previous years, like AHS over 2 only had 4 entries!! I wonder why all the scratches??

Maybe because of the really bad economy? I think in the next few years we are going to be seeing very small classes at breed shows, not only because showing is expensive but also because breeders are putting fewer horses on the ground. My vets are telling me that I am one of only a few of their clients who had a foal crop this year and have one on the way for 2010.

I think the economy had a huge effect on the Devon entries. Show was over by 4 or 5:00 each day. Sometimes it has run until 10 for the East Coast Championship classes & IBCs.

This was the first time in 15 years I had no entry, and sometimes in the past, I have taken 6, entering multiple classes, etc.

Klaus told me that Angela Barilar imported China Doll as a weanling and that she is not by Hilltop's Cabaret. I guess Scott and Susanne Hassler came over to check and Klaus confirmed that it is a different Cabaret. She is REALLY lovely.

Actually it did run to almost 10 pm on Tuesday night. The was because the East Coast Filly Finals expanded from about 12 horses to about 36 horses with the new rule of scoring at least a 77% and thus qualifying. It was a LONG filly class.

That has to be the same China Doll. I was not at DAD This year but I find it highly unlikely that there would be another China Doll by Cabaret that also happened to rock VADA/NOVA just before Devon. Also, the China Doll owned by Marilyn Fawley was bred in Germany by Heinz Wulf, and was imported by Angela Barilar (High Point Hanoverians) as a foal. And unless there also happens to be another Cabaret that is Cor de la Bryere x Landgraf I, China Doll is by Hilltop Cabaret, though she was born abroad, not in the US.

She absolutely was imported by Angela, not sure about that Cabaret part (but it is understandable that someone might assume, given that she was born abroad, that it is a different Cabaret). Regardless, nice mare!

Darn, didn't see my guy. I brought a weanling colt by Sempatico, LJS Shiitake. He was a bit nervous being off farm without mom for first time so didn't show as well as he did at Fair Hill Dressage Breed Show where he won the RPSI class, but I was still very happy with him since by the end he really calmed down. Such a good experience for him. He came in 4th but he also was the only baby and was up against full grown and under saddle ones so not too shabby. We had such fun catching up with old friends.
