My gelding is slowly recovering from three moderate casting sores after arthrodesis surgery. http://fharoahcastingsores.blogspot.com/ Has anyone used herbal solution? Would love to get some opinions on it.

Do you mean Schreiner's Herbal Solution? Schneider's doesn't carry an herbal solution for wound care.

I have not used that, but I am currently using Banixx on a bad coronary cut on my yearling filly. It is working very well. Her wound has to stay wrapped all the time because of the location, and there has been no infection. It's healing about as well as can be expected given the severity of the cut.

Our trainer put us on to Schreiner's Herbal Solution several years ago, and it is something we keep on hand at all times to use on cuts of all kinds. We have used it on minor cuts, and also on wounds that have required stitching too. It really helps with the healing. Without looking at the bottle, I can't remember what all is in it, but it works, and the horses don't mind you putting it on the wound at all. :)

Don't breathe it in! I accidentally got a strong whiff of it and immediately starting coughing up a lung - whatever's in there is caustic! My horses didn't care for me spraying in on them, either - I guess if it burns the lungs, then it probably burns what you put it on.

Man that stuff is great!! Heals wounds so fast and with little if any scarring. One of the boarders here swears by it and after I have seen it work on a few of her horses (one recently had a gash under the eye clear to the bone about two weeks ago. Completely gone now, (just a small speck) I am going to order two bottles for the barn.

I used it on proud flesh and it works. great!
It has Chili pepper (well actually the chemicalthat makes them spicy in it) and that is what makes it sting/burn and smell horrible. Also don't get it near your face/eyes. But I love it and worked great.

My gelding had some type of "skin crud" on his face (I think it was rain rot starting from hanging his head over his dutch door when it was storming outside). I put some Schreiner's on it 2x a day for a week and it cleared right up before it got bad.

That was the first time I used it. I LOVE that stuff now!

I can't get near my horse with that stuff.

My Greyhound ran through a barbed wire fence one night so I thought I'd put some of this highly touted stuff on her and wait until morning to take her to the vet. She cried like a baby, poor girl, it stung her so badly.

If it helped prod flesh, that is interesting, because proud flesh has no nerves in it even though it is highly vascular. My friend might like to know more as she is currently dressing a huge cut on the front of her horse's hind fetlock and she can have my stuff.

Ugh, same here! I was spraying it on a horse's legs once at a barn I used to work for, and accidentally breathed it in....I gagged for 5 minutes straight. It's the worst feeling ever!
