Hi all,
I looked up some previous threads to get ideas for shippers, but am having a hard time finding a company that will go across the border into Canada. Neither McLemore or Equine Express run routes through there. I thought I had a private shipper lined up, but all of the sudden I can't get in contact with her. I haven't called Cox yet. Any ideas?
I'm shipping a six month old weanling filly. I would not normally ship so young, but we have to get her shipped prior to snow fall. She's in Elgin, Quebec (just across the NY border), and I'm in Fayetteville, GA (just south of Atlanta). Obviously I will be needing a box stall.

Johnson Horse Transportation is quite good and up and down the east coast every week. You can contact them at 888-331-9961 or johnsonht@fast.net. Website johnsonhorsetransportation.com
We ship a number of weanlings/youngsters and they are very accomodating with box stalls.

I would highly recommend Elite Horse Transport - http://www.elitehorsetransport.com/
Although, you'll have to check with them regarding where they go.
My mare was shipped from CA to KY a few months ago and this was my first time shipping cross-county, so I was pretty nervous. James and his assistant were awesome with making sure that she had everything and she was comfortable before she left in her HUGE box stall. As the impressive rig was leaving with her in the top stall, looking through one of her windows with hay hanging out of her mouth, I think I heard her neighing, "I'm the QUEEN of the world!" :)
But on a serious note, a good friend of mine who is a pro breeder, also used this company for shipping all of her stallions, mares and foals when her farm moved from CA to KY and this is the ONLY transport company that she uses for shipping her foals when they sell.
The communication during the trip was great (which was huge for me) and my mare arrived on time at the correct place in awesome condition.
Good Luck!

Thank you! I will try these companies and see what I can come up with. Hopefully I can get the dates confirmed by the end of this week....

Several years ago, I was on a truck with another horse shipping NY-FL with Jack/Beacon Hill--there were several weanlings on board, and he took extra special care of them the whole way. They were dropped off in Ocala before we headed on to WPB, and all arrived in very good shape.

Perry Transport up here in Canada cross the border all the time. They just took my weanling filly from Ontario to Colorado and she arrived in perfect shape - I cant say enough good things about them!

Ditto on Perry. You won't find a better shipper in Eastern Canada.

Ack!! Still having problems finding someone. I'm waiting on a quote from Perry.....Elite won't pick up in Canada, nor will Johnson Horse Transport or Cox. I got one quote from a private shipper but it'll be over $2500, I was not expecting that much. I've had two companies (including my usual shipper) tell me they can do it, but the foal has to be brought across the border (which may be possible since the seller is only about 15 min across the border). The guy I usually use was $850 to ship to upstate NY so I'm hoping it'd be around $1000 if he can do it.

We used Perry to transport our weanling filly from Ontario to Northern CA--Excellent Service, Communications and Equipment. Would definitely recommend or use them again.

I live very close to Elgin, and I use Mary Mykytyn for all my cross border shipping. She has a very nice box stall trailer, and the horses arrive as well as when they left.
Email me if you would her info.

Sorry, not trying to hijack, but I was searching for horse transport companies on trusty COTH to the US from Canada and I came across this thread.
I am also looking for a shipper to bring my new horse from Halifax, NS to Dallas, TX. Have tried to contact Perry and work with them, not having much luck. I am still trying to work with them bc I have heard they are the best, but I am getting a little frustrated and want some other options. They have pushed back the pick up date for my horse for 3 weeks now, any other ideas? I tried IHT and they do not pick up in Halifax... Any help would be appreciated!

I used Rick Bodi horse transport to bring my mare from Hilltop to Ottawa. He was really super, and made the whole experience stress free. You can find him at www.rickbodihorsetransport.com
I also found he got back to me the quickest, and was very helpful in explaining everything. He came very highly recommended, and I was not disappointed.

I think Perry works from regularly scheduled transport both east and west and north and south. I got lucky they were headed my way when I needed a ride...ended up getting my filly from Ontario-Northern CA in three days!

I second UShip. I found a wonderful shipper using their website. It's very user friendly, letting you put in all your info on your horse and stall requirements. They have shipper's bid on your route and then you can contact the shipper to ask questions.

Be careful with Uship, and really others too. The shipper one of my boarders hired from that site was a real piece of work. Blind recommendations may come from others that know nothing about shipping, as the hauler hired did not, but thought he did. Get recommendations from someone you know to be knowledgeable.

I recently shipped my 5 month old across country. Same reason, I wanted to get her out here before the snow. I was worried and searched for a while for a shipper. Well, let me tell you, my shipper was amazing. He really takes care of the horses like they were his own, if not better! Very good horsemen.
Anyway, my filly even arrived with a few more pounds than when she left! :-) She seems to take everything in stride, but they were fully prepared if she decided to be more like a baby.
Im not completely sure he goes up and down the east coast but i know he certainly comes to the east coast. My filly left from Vancouver Washington to Lancaster Pa. (which is very very far). Also, I do believe he was looking to take another horse from my breeder to canada, so I think he goes up there. Hes worth giving a call. He came highly recommended to me, and I will certainly keep the tradition going. I was very happy and impressed!
Best of luck!

I would not ship a weanling in a van that didn't have partitions that when from the floor to the ceiling. Make sure they ride loose in a box stall.

NOT NOT NOT Horsin'Around they are unreliable, don't return calls after they have your money.. and so far not returned the money either after 7 weeks ... gaaaah I'll prolly have to start a thread for advice on what to do next :(

That is one of the things I liked about All-State Horse Express. I shipped a weanling with them in a slant, stall and a half. She had plenty of room to turn around, lie down, etc., and the full screen let her see the other horses, but she could be loose.
I would NEVER use ProRide Horse Transportation- dangerous idiot with a bad attitude.

I shipped my weaner from North Bumfuck, Canada (sorry Sue and Leah -- but you are a Loooong way away :) )to Lexington, Ky with Perry. I had the same problem -- could not get them to get back to me at first.
When they finally did the lady said that she had not had anything to tell me because they had not had a load organized from Western Canada into Toronto (their "hub" for laying over and switching vans to send horses toward their final destination).
I had my nose out of joint -- like "lady, it would have been nice if you would have called me to tell me you were working on a load that included my horse..." but I held my tongue -- and I am glad I did.
From that moment on, Perry took over everything, and all details were handled 100% perfectly. I have never been more impressed with any company.
Perry contacted the sender/seller and worked with them on the export papers. They arranged for the pickup, using a local hauler to go into the farm and get my little guy. It met their big air-glide 16 horse rig that took him 2500 miles across country in the "mezzanine" stall (loose box which is where they like to put the weaners) with a full bucket of water and a haynet available at all times.
He laid over in Toronto for 24 hours to give him a chance to lie down and and sleep, then re-loaded in another "mezzanine" stall for his final 10 hours across the border and down to Ky.
All in all, he traveled over 3000 miles in 5 days and he got off the van in very good shape. Their drivers are knowledgeable and handled a skittish weanling, leading him off a warm and lit van, down a ramp into a cold and dark night with great tact and understanding. Color me impressed.
Do not consider ANYONE else. Go with the best.

Yeah, I have heard Perry is the best, but being pushed out three weeks is a little frustrating to say the least. Now I am going to have to pay to get another vet out and have another health certificate generated! But I am still waiting on a call back so maybe it will work out after all if they can get her out this week...
Has anyone heard of / used this company?

It looks pretty nice and the woman I spoke to was very responsive.

Try
www.travelinghorse.com and then ask the lady running it before you book to see if she has any complaints against the shipper. She removes them from the list if they have more than one I think.

Perry just delivered a 6 month old weanling from my place, east of Toronto, to Tenessee. They travel regularly
I've also heard good things about Rick Bodi.
