Hey all, never thought that I would be typing this, but WHAT colors do you wear on your "white" gray horses? My filly grayed out VERY fast *headdesk* so at age 3 is completely white with very little dark on her, not even her legs! I have a black hunt coat (for eventing) but it makes me look pretty ill (i don't do black so well). I am looking at this ----->http://www.doversaddlery.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_X1-40543 hunt coat, LOVE the price, has some stretch and its actual wool. So what would look best with a gray (was originally chestnut)?

Thanks everyone! Oh and here is the lovely filly herself! http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=2834001&l=22108c5195&id=728046881

Really, any colour except brown would look good on her. I would suggest a light grey jacket, which is available in the jacket you posted the link to. A dark grey jacket with a black velvet helmet is what I want on my darker grey mare :)

What do you guys think of the dark gray plaid with a lavender shirt?

Light blue or light blue gray, if you're bold. Otherwise, anything will be fine because not much clashes with light gray.

Make sure it's more wool then "blend" - you don't want anything that's sort of shiny. On the bright side, I've rarely paid above $50 or so for a hunt coat because I buy them used or on sale, so check ebay and your local tack consignment.

I think just about any color. I've seen green coats look very nice, but they are not as popular these days. I'd go with a blue that has a pattern in it such as plaid or pinstripe. and maybe a pastel colored shirt.

I think your combination sounds pretty good, is there any pattern in the grey?

I would go with:
French Blue (RJ classics makes a gorgeous coat in this color)
Hunter Green (not very popular these days, but very classy!)
Navy
or Almost any shade of grey.

anything other than light grey or brown/tan.

My daughter's light gray horse looks good in dark colors, navy, dark gray, black, etc. She looked terrible in a light brown/green huntcoat that my daughter rode on a chestnut horse. Especially with the green/biege tailored sportsman breeches. Tan breeches look better on a gray.

this one looks nice for the price with a light blue shirt. A gray coat on a gray horse sounds lovely.

anything other than light grey or brown/tan.

I'd have to disagree. I have a very light gray coat with a light blue/teal plaid and lining and it looks fabulous on my white mare.

:o I thought my brown jacket (http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs113.snc1/4952_113121116210_598196210_3178464_7004185_n.jpg) looked fine on my little grey horse... :o

GENERALLY, a coat with brown/tan hues will tend to bring out the brown/tan in the horse's coat (read: "dirty"), whereas blue tones will enhance the white (read: "clean"). That's why the "whitening" shampoos are blue. It's just how our eyes see color. I would definitely stick with a jacket that had blue hues. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule- I have a red roan pony that is mostly white except for a few scattered red hairs and I wear brown with her because it makes her look more "roan" and less "unbathed.":yes:

I'd think any rich blue or grey tones would look great with your white grey, as long as its not solid or too dark. Look for something with a blue or lavender overplaid or pinstripes and a light blue or lavender shirt.

If you can find light grey breeches to pair with it, even better!

we have a white horse as well and my daughter wears either navy/with a lavender overplaid or a light gray jacket and both look great!

My brown jacket doesn't look terrible on my grey but I have been thinking of buying a navy jacket or a grey jacket. Smartpak carries an Ariat coat that is grey/lavender plaid with a subtle lavender piping on the collar. It's really pretty. But.....I should probably buy the navy because I want to show the adult eqs :)

I always loved my daughter's color combination with her snow white pony...Navy plaid coat and purple shirt.

I know I can't do a brown, she was chestnut prior to graying so brown makes her look yucky (ie I try not to wear brown clothes around her lol) but I'm liking the gray with lavender overplaid! THanks guys!

On the grey I retired, I wore dark blue, medium brown and a dark grey coat and all looked good with him

I like a brown coat on a grey too. Not so much on my grey, since I haven't gotten the yellow out of her tail yet.

There's so many options depending on what kind of grey you have. If you have the white grey horse, you can do almost anything.

I'm still looking for the french blue coat. (In my fluffy size, ahem...)
