Trying to stand for a measurement card and he needs to be six but you know how rules can be so now I'm not sure technically how old he is.
He was born May 2004. So when he is old enough? Is he 1 the year he was born regardless of age, 1 the Dec. 1st after he was born or 1 on his actual birthday? How does USEF verify age when you're coming for measurement?

i always thought it was jan 1st of the year they were born... if not someone correct me

so he would be considered 6 jan 1st 2010

GR102 Age (of Equine).
1. For competition purposes any horse is considered to be one year old on the first day of
January following the actual date of foaling.

In the measurement section it says that age is determined by

a copy of the animal’s breed registration papers or a signed statement
from a veterinarian certifying the animal’s age.

He is considered one year old January 1st of the year after he is born.

EX: A pony is born March of 2008. The pony is considered one year old January 1, 2009.

This particular pony will be considered 6 years old on January 1, 2010. For measurement purposes, he can be measured for a permanent or standard card during the month of December 2009 and not have to be remeasured in January 2010. FYI from a steward who does measurements all the time.

Great! Thanks for info! It's my horse that I'm hoping to do in pre-greens next year but getting his small jr. Card for re-sale purposes.
