One of the people from that farm posts on another BB I frequent.
Unfortunately in that barn they lost most of the hay they had put up already. If anyone is thinking of making a donation, hay might be the best idea.

Such a shame.... I wonder what they will say started it?
I've never been there, but they have a really great rep for taking excellent care of the old guys.
So sad.

There have been numerous barn fires in this area this year- people putting hay up damp, because of the rainy conditions we've had, and then it spontaneously combusts, when it build enough heat.

I had not heard about this- very, very sad- they do wonderful work. I had a friend who had her old mare there, years ago, and we went to visit her- it was a lovely experience.

That's what one of the folks from there is wondering too, if it might have been the hay. Many hayers had to get cut hay baled and off the fields really fast this year. There's a lot of wet bales out there now, everyone be careful.

Oh NO! We were just there a few weeks ago with our camp kids as a "field trip"! It was a lovely place and did a great job taking care of their horses.

I'm just glad everyone is ok!!!

The fire started on the 2nd floor where hay is stored. It totally sucks but I'm so glad that no people or critters were injured.

This is literally right down the road from me, and I was wondering why Rt 23 was blocked off. I never dreamed it would be something this unfortunate :(

Apparently I was driving past just as the barn lit off... 2 min down the road, firetrucks and responding units were in rout. I worked there about 2 years ago for a good bit of time. Tim was out moving round bales for the cows down the road so I know he wasn't at the farm when the barn caught...

I know they just cut alfalfa and had JUST filled the hay loft. 2 Horses WERE in the barn at the time, but they were removed right away...

Horrible thing to happen, but at least it wasn't the main barn, where the horses who need that extra special attention are. Good thing it was summer and the horses were turned out for the summer

Does anyone want to donate hay, or anything? I am going up next weekend with some hay, I just spoke to Susan at Ryerss.
