Eye Witness Watches Five Horses Are Stolen From Seffner, FL Pasture

SEFFNER, FL –With the state on alert already due to the previous stolen and butchered horses, this case has a urgency unlike any in the past. Could these horses be next? Can these hoses be saved before it is too late?

It is not the first time nor will it be the last time that horses are stolen in plain site of unknowing bystander. The thieves and horses are gone but they valuable insight on the theft these five horses.

The thieves pulled up a fence post, cut the fence and released two horses of their own to help them corral eight others that were grazing in the pasture. The thieves then drove through the fence, loaded the horses, came back through and re-tied the fence to make it look like the fence was still up.

A witness watched the scene unfold; unaware they were stealing the animals.

The incident took place in the 7400 block of Williams Road on September 5, 2009. Two men, one described as tall and slender, the other chunky with a goatee, worked with a heavyset blond woman as they talked with a neighbor who thought didn’t know they were stealing the horses.

The thieves were able to drive away with five horses, two of which are listed with Stolen Horse International, aka NetPosse.com., in a truck described as a new model maroon Dodge Dully. It was pulling a green combo stock trailer which may have a white canvas top.

Sundance, a 1,300-pound palomino gelding and Shilo, a brown Paintaloosa mare with four white stockings were stolen from a family living in Lutz, FL. Shilo, also has white in the front half of her body a blanket with small brown spots on her rear.

An IDAHO Alert has been issued for Sundance and Shilo with a link to a customized webpage and flyer that can be printed at www.netposse.com. NetPosse.com recommends tack and feed stores, auction barns, restaurants, and convenience stores; in short, anywhere that area people, and potential witnesses, congregate.

Authorities also say a dark brown Shetland pony stallion with a flaxen mane and tail, a paint mare with white with sorrel shields and a dark bay mare with an injured hip and a limp were also stolen.

In a note sent to Stolen Horse International, an unconfirmed tip stated that the truck, trailer and horses were seen traveling in the Miami-Dade area.

The remains of 17 horses have been found since January in Miami-Dade County, many slaughtered and abandoned on or near rural roads. In May, two horses were found in a field in Miramar. This week another horse was found butchered in his stall on a ranch in Miami Gardens, Fl.

None of the cases in either county has been solved. Could this case be connected to the butchered animals or a random act of thievery?

Ok maybe I have more common sense than most.. but the witness WATCHED as they cut the fence, rounded up the horses, and then retied to the fence?! Would that not set off some alarms in the brain going that doesn't seem right?! I'd be calling the police as soon as I saw them cut the fence.

That's exactly what I was thinking as I read the article. Hello? You don't have to be a horse person to figure that out. It's like saying "I thought he threw the rock through the window because he left his keys inside"

Idiots.

Or maybe "I don't know if they live there and they just had a hard time with their key. But I did notice they used their shoulder to try to barge in and they got in. I don't know if they had a key or not, 'cause I couldn't see from my angle."

The thing is, even though that whole thing got blown out of proportion, that caller did the right thing by calling 911.

I'd rather be embarrassed by an unneeded visit by the cops than have something like this happen.

 People ARE wanted in the case, not the animals! Maybe a COTH campaign is in order. Can we all write the show's host and ask for his help?!

Thinking the same thing. Witness didn't question why they were cutting the fence? Bringing in a trailer and loading horses up?

Especially in lieu of all the horses being butchered for meat in FL?? It's got to be headline news down there, no? And it didn't set off an alarm in the witness's brain? :sigh:

Yes, but people aren't killing people - they are killing horses....and the show is about people killing other people....:sigh:

Go right ahead and try and you'll probably get the exact same answer I did.

On one of the other threads on the stolen horse and butchering someone said the host of AMW son rode and was from or in that area. Fat lot of good that did....

That's about 20 minutes away from me. Thank the lord I am home almost all day! Still scary stuff. Makes me want to put razor wire on the ground outside my fences.

Holy Sh**.

I could understand if someone drove into the barnyard and stole the horses - at least that might appear "normal".

But pulling posts and cutting fence? And the witness didn't dial 911? Too bad the witness can't be charged with criminal stupidity.

I hope the horses are found safe and sound.

Hm, I have a thought about those that 'witnessed the theft'. Suppose they were really the ones that actually did it and are giving a description of other people and vehicle and trailer to throw the police off. Or possibly, as some of us suspect, there are a couple of groups doing this and one group is giving a description of the other so they can get the reward money. I put nothing past these scum bags.

Anyone else think this is a viable scenerio????

How terrifying, especially, as stated, in light of the horse butchering that's going on in Florida! And as everyone is saying, there are a LOT of fishy details in this whole scenario... stuff certainly doesn't add up.

I just hope and pray that the owners get their horses back!

I don't know, it sounds like the witnesses were talking to the people who were stealing the horses. They might have come out to investigate and the thieves had a convincing story. If you tell something to someone with enough conviction and confidence, most people will believe most anything (especially if it's about a subject they're not too familiar with, like say horses if the neighbor isn't a horse person). It may have occurred to them afterward that the explanation is flimsy, but by then the damage is done.

I don't think the witnesses were necessarily stupid or involved with the crime. Of course all any of us can do is speculate, but my first thought was they probably went down to see what was going on and the thieves had a good story ready, which they accepted at the time.

Hopefully the horses will be recovered safe and sound.

Ya know, I ALWAYS yank out a fence post and cut the fence when I load up my horses to go somewhere. Doesn't everybody? <headdesk>

Jingling that they find the horses.

People just suck sometimes.

Two of the stolen horses belong to my farrier (the couple mentioned as living in Lutz). I will see what I can find out.

What I understood from him is that someone had seemingly abandoned two horses in the pasture a few days ahead of time. They then came back for their horses and took the others. They apparently roped some of the horses because one of my farrier's other horses was found dragging a 50 foot lasso. She apparently did not want to cooperate.

They do. John Walsh and his son are quite the polo players. They have a gorgeous stable down there full of polo ponies. And Reve Walsh hunts with Four Winds, in fact she is a Master.

Sadly, no update. I tried calling my farrier today and finally got a hold of him this evening. He had a heart attack yesterday and is in the hospital.

Just an update, my farrier recovered his horse a couple of weeks ago, the pintaloosa mare. The others have not been found.

Apparently the horse was taken to the Miami area and was sold a few weeks ago. The person that bought boarded her at a farm and the farm owner recognized her from the Netposse ad and called my farrier and his family. Se sent him a photo, which they made a positive ID from and went down to Miami with the police to take the horse.

The person that bought the horse did so from some dinky little piece of land in the same area indicated in the illegal slaughter thread. The trail goes cold there. They have not had any luck in finding the others or in finding the thief.

Wow. So glad that your farrier got his horse back, but my goodness...what a sad story for all the others.
