I usually lurk but one of the horses at the barn where I board de-gloved a large portion of his hind canon bone on Thursday afternoon. The total upside down V is about 50 cm long. The extra special jingles are needed because he has recovered from two severe front suspensory injuries through his Mom's dedicated and constant care over the last 15 months and he was just getting back under saddle for light riding. So please, jingle for Jen and Fonzie.

Thank you and I will pass them on. Fonzie is at Vet. hospital with round the clock care. We are hopeful as a fellow boarder was driving up the drive at the moment it happened(her mom saw the whole thing) and we were able to get to him within a minute or so. Wound was clean but just on a massive scale. If they can keep it from getting infected, it should heal ok as the vet did a great job of stitching and cleaning! Another boarder was on hand, she is a surgical assistant and was just fabulous in helping the vet close the wound! Thanks again!

I will jingle too. I've seen quite a few of these and if cared for properly they usually turn out just fine. They look scary but are usually looking much worse than they actually are.
Was the extensor tendon damaged?

Was the extensor tendon damaged?
It was showing and slightly frayed but not too bad per the vet. We did get an anatomy lesson from it as there was a lot of leg exposed that one normally doesn't(and doesn't want to:eek:) get to see. Poor Fonz was a trooper. He is ottb and can be hard to catch(especially after the endless stall rest) but he let me walk right up to him and he stood quite well until the vet arrived! The vet did say that if there is no infection, he would be fine. Fingers crossed!

Throwing huge jingles your way. CeeCee de-gloved a hind leg quite a few years ago and although horrific at the time, it healed completely. My Vet spent hours stitching the leg and warned us by day 5 the stitches might "slough"off/out which they did. We worked on that leg for the entire summer but it did heal with very little scarring. Best of luck. A great product we used after the first 10 days was something called intracell (sp.) Is a powder you dust the wound with. Worked.
