Just bought a new tub of my favorite pelleted multi-vite supplement. As I've started feeding it I'm finding that much of this tub is powdery mixed in with the pellets. Normally the pellets are small and fairly hard with minimal crushing only at the bottom. The seal wasn't broken and the tub was filled full, so I'm not sure how it could have been shaken or crushed that much to create so much powder. I'm worried about correct dosage with half being a different consistency. Would you take this back to the feed store for exchange?

My guess is the bucket was filled from the last of the big batch, which would have contained a lot of the residual "dust".

I suppose you could do either - feed as is and just use the same scoop, or take it back. I wouldn't feel bad about taking it back though ;)

My horses don't like eating powders, so I'd take it back. :)

I'd take it back too. If you paid for pellets, you get pellets. Also, some horses don't like powders, if they blow then powder can sometimes be blown out of the feed, questions regarding what caused it to degrade to powder, questions regarding if it came that way from the manufacturer then is the formula the same, etc. All these would make me take it back.

I'd take it back, too ... there's always the potential for the fine dust to be inhaled. What's the use-by date? You paid for pellets, not the dregs at the end of a production run ... who is to say you're even getting what's supposed to be in the pellets in these powdery left-overs.
