Since we don't have anything like CANTER here in Florida I am wondering if anyone might be able to lead me in any sort of direction to finding nice horses in need of re-training coming off the tracks here in Florida? I am in the Tampa area and would love to try and find some nice Thoroughbreds that aren't making it on our local tracks around the state. Thanks.

Craigslist or ocala4sale is a good place to start.

You can try these folks:

http://www.tampatrot.org/

(the website appears pretty new but they seem to function very similarly to CANTER, LOPE, FLTAP, and the like)

This rescue I am familiar with just took in two colts, a 3 and 4 year old and need to move them fast. You can read about them here http://www.beautysequinerescue.org/daily_blog.htm The 4 year old sounds like a nice prospect.

My BFF here in Ocala does volunteer work for a local rescue. http://www.beautysequinerescue.org/ They resently aquired this 3 yr old TB gelding (just gelded yesterday). They are looking for a good home they are waiving the adoption fee and he does does not have to stay in FL. They are overwelmed with horses right now that aren't yet adoptable. Here is his photo and the note my friend sent along about him. Some of the note is edited because of foul language You would need to find transportaion but I know they have alot of connections possibly something could be arranged. I'm going to try to get his breeding from her as soon as I get in touch today.

THIS IS A 3 YEAR OLD THAT DIDNT MAKE IT AS A RACE HORSE HE WAS JUST GELDED YESTERDAY, HE IS THE SWEETEST STALLION ( GELDING) I HAVE EVER MET JUST A LAID BACK GUY, IF YOU KNOW ANYONE THAT CAN GIVE HIM A HOME

HE DOESNT HAVE A MEAN BONE IN HIS BODY HE STANDS AND LET ME DO ANYTHING TO HIM WITHOUT ANY AGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR AT ALL.

HE WAS BEING RIDDEN . I THINK HE WOULD MAKE SOMEONE A NICE HORSE. IN CASE YOU OR BILL KNOWS ANYONE.

HIS MOM HAS PRODUCED MANY BABIES THAT HAVE SOLD FOR BIG BUCKS. I LL GET HER PEDIGREE NAME IF YOU ARE INTERESTED

Jeez, given the recent thefts and horse butchering in FL. isn't selling horses for $75 a little risky?

Well I think the @%^$#&@ would rather steal them but yes that's MY first thought. I don't really think they care as long as they get rid of them. JMO

You may want to make a weekend trip up to Ocala and visit some of the Training CentersL Starting Gate, Nelsons, Hawkingridge, McCathan's, Abbey Road, DeMeric's, etc, and see if anyone is looking to sell or give away. There are usually a couple hanging around. I have 3 at my farm right now, but they have soundness issues....

Another coth-er last year gave me the site www.ocala4sale.com (http://www.ocala4sale.com)
Lots of mares and geldings who all need homes. Some free and some cheap.

Sadly many TBs in FL are being given away or sold cheaply as their owners disperse them, but a great opportunity for anyone who wants good horses who need homes.
