She's based in Auburn, AL. She was there while I was based at the same farm during college. I'm pretty sure she claimed canadian nationality then....2002/2004, but its been a while

I believe Jess was born in Canada then moved to Tennessee when she was a child. Grew up here until she went to college at Auburn. I think her parents are still here. AND for trivia, I think she went to the same high school as Linden Wiseman.

The Nashville area is crawling with Canadians. But they're like ninjas, cruising along under the radar, until you wave some Montreal smoked meat around and suddenly they're swarming around like flies.

Random and possibly stupid question, but is Louise Skelton related to showjumper Nick Skelton?
Will videos of this be up anywhere, like with Burghley? As someone just getting into eventing, I found them very educational viewing :)

Ha!
So you were in Nashville, flying under the radar, were you? I'm thinking of waving around some "Nashville smoked meat" (that would be Southern BBQ to you!) during MTPC HT. We'll see if anyone swarms around--let me know if you're in town!

I'm so under the radar that I'm in Nashville right now...
... but the Montreal smoked meat trick doesn't work with me. I'm not
Canadian, I just live with one, much of the time on his side of the border. But in both places, I swear I'm surrounded by Canadians. I'm not sure if Americans realize just how much of their good ol' country music is made by Canadians. Stealthy bunch, our neighbors to the north.

:lol::lol: We are the new breed of ninja. Like this Mathieu Boisselier guy - total ninja. I. Have. Never. Heard. Of. Him. I feel like I should be disowned from my home country for not knowing this Canadian eventer. And the fact that I have never heard of Jessica Hampf before reading the results this morning and seeing the Canadian flag next to her name is just lame. I truly am pitiful when it comes to my national heritage

An update from Horse & Hound: Lucy Wiegersma leads Blenheim Horse Trials after cross-country (http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/competitionnews/391/289164.html)
Dressage leader Allison Springer had a devastating 20 penalties late on course at The Joules Blackberry Brushes (fence 26ab) with Arthur, while fence 13ab put paid to the chances of both Neil Spratt (third after dressage on Upleadon) and Pippa Funnell (fifth after dressage on Ensign).

Will had 4.5 Time faults, but otherwise clear. He chose to go the long route on one option fence, but rode beautifully. Great fun to watch.
Allison had a small glance off of a very tough looking double corner (the second). Other than that (and even WITH that) she looked amazing. I'll post some pics tonight when I get back to the hotel.
Mark Todd retired on course after several stops, and there were 8 Rider and/or horse falls. Lots of E's and a few W's. Overall the course was lovely, fair but tough.

Holly is a lovely rider and can make up her own horses. That whole family is great! Any news on her round?
Enjoyed knowing there are Canadians and eventers in Nashville,as I am moving to Franklin from our Unionville Pa farm (which is being left in the care of 20-something eventers Maisy Grassie,Alison Chubb and Francesca King) and I know I will be absolutely jonesing for horseflesh. Saw some nice places as we have been driving around looking for a house to lease, around Leipers Fork and Grasslands, but many looked like quarter horse, tennessee walkers,or arabian. Where are the eventers? Northeast of Nashville?

If you went from Grassland to Leipers Fork and you looked left at just the right moment you would have seen my place! Going down that road you also would have been within a mile of a dozens of event horses, scads of dressage horses, numerous jumpers, a gazillion hunters (show and real) and quite a few polo ponies. Once you get closer to Leipers Fork you start finding some big time endurance riders. I don't know anyone in the area that would have walking horses other than pleasure/trail mounts--the real ones are all down around Shelbyville. But yeah, you found the right area if you want to be in the thick of Mid Tenn English sporthorsedom.
Loved looking at the results and seeing so many riders making big jumps in placement on the basis of a great XC round. Fairweather that photo Holly on that little red mare is fabulous!

That's no excuse. And now that we all know the secret about Montreal smoked meat, finding Canadians shouldn't be that hard either!
Obviously, I need to have a BBQ Friday night before MTPC HT so that all random COTHers, local eventers and whoever else wants to stumble upon us can gather...
And to keep this wandering thread on topic, we can talk about the Blenheim Results while eating Q.

As they say in these parts, dang.
I see that MTPC HT is Oct 10-11. Which is the weekend my little ones (3 and 4) will be at the Ark in NC and my 7 year-old will be making her debut at (gulp) Intermediate at the Maryland HT.
I'll be too nervous to eat anything.

Holly Payne is an amazing rider and I was on a Young Rider team with her in 1999. She has brought along all of her horses and I am sure we will see more of her in the future. I am thrilled that she is able to compete on the international level, as mostly it is money holding us back! I have my fingers crossed for her.

Isn't Holly Payne self-funded in her trip to the UK? IIRC she was having fundraisers earlier this year to pay her way.
