View Full Version : How do you wash wraps?

I usually put my standing wraps in the washing machine, but tonight one of them got TORN up in the washer (gentle cycle). I need them for Saturday and now am down one (ugh!). How do you wash them? If you put them in the washing machine, what cycle do you put them on and how do you keep them from getting 1) torn up/ruined, and 2) so incredibly tangled up?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, lol...

A mesh laundry bag like you use to wash lingerie. They sell them in the laundry section of Wal Mart, where they have clothes hangers and such. Get a big one, because you'll be surprised how much space a set of wraps will take up. You want plenty of room for them to move around so they get clean. If they're stuffed in there really tight there will be dirt still stuck in there.

That's a great idea!
Thanks for humoring me in my blonde moment, hehe.

You can also use an old pillow case if you don't have a mesh bag.

They also are good for washing halters; it keeps the metal fittings on the halter from chipping the coating on a metal washing machine drum.

I wash my standing wraps on the casual cycle (cold or warm water depending on how much manure there is) and have never had one destroyed that way. All I have ever used are center agitator washing machines.

I always velcro each wrap to itself so that they don't stick to one another. They do still tangle, but it only takes a minute or 2 to undo them since none should be velcro-ed to one another. And I usually wash 8 - 12 wraps at a time.

I also dry my standing wraps in the dryer (medium heat) and have never had any issue.

Another vote for mesh laundry bags. They work great.

With the really large size I can easily put four standing wraps in and they come clean. Otherwise I limit it to two wraps per bag.

Be sure to roll the velcro back and stick it to itself.

I use normal cleaning cycle with warm or cold water (if I have my back on tract no bows in there I use cold water).

I then toss the bags right into the dryer.

Using the bags also lessons the wrap knot affect so untangling and re-rolling is much quicker and easier.

If you have the kind of washer with the agitator in the middle, the wraps can get tangled around it, and even underneath it and damage the washer. Ask me how I know. If you have a front loader or model without an agitator, your washer isn't in nearly as much peril.

I use diaper pins (since the advent of velco, I no longer use bandage pins), accordion each wrap up and stick the pin through it. Each wrap goes into the washer as a floppy little rectangle and comes out clean and untangled.

Yep I did that too. I took me forever to untangle them. Now I have a front loader woohoo. Still I'm going to get a mesh bag to keep them altogether. Good idea!

That is a very cool idea , my youngest just potty trained and we used cloth diapers so I have a TON of diaper pins that I have been finding a new use for!! this is another one to add to the list!

Ok, that's just downright brilliant. The mesh bags are great, but I still usually have to do a bit of detangling.

Be sure to fold the velcro back onto itself and use a mesh laundry bag - especially for thinner / fancier wraps that you really do not want damaged. Sometimes putting the wraps in the bag can inhibit the cleaning process slightly, but it does indeed reduce wear and tear!

Have fun washing!
