I’ve listed a bunch of tack on Craig's List. I was joking with a friend how amusing it would be if I got an offer to trade the tack for a puppy  Background being that I would love to have my own dog, but my in-college and in my mother’s house lifestyle, it’s a no go :(. Well, same day of posting I get an email offering to trade for, not the cute puppy of my dreams, but a horse.

Heave a huge sigh at the irony.

Hmm... I traded a rooster and a dollar for a horse. Still not sure who got the better end of that deal.

LOL!

I want another cat, so per this thread, I just tried asking my husband for another pony. He promptly said no. Then I sighed, and asked for a cat--at least.

He said, "The pony was just a ploy, wasn't it?"

I pointed out that if he called my bluff and said okay to the pony, I wasn't about to turn it down...

My dear mum was a hard working single mother. She supported my horse habit as a kid to the best of her ability. I was a working student from the age of 11 of off set the bills and got a minimum wage job on top of that as soon as I was legally allowed to. I totally understoof that every dollar in our budget was stretteched, but I still jokingly asked for a pony every birthday and Christmas. A pony mind you, not a horse because I was small and figured if I could manage to get my hands on a cheap, rank pony, I could flip it and buy the next one to continue supporting my habit, since I was already retraining spoiled ponies as part of my working student duties.

A few weeks before my sixteenth birthday we were at the local feed store picking up out brushes for my new grooming kit (an practical early birthday present to celebrate my new working student position with a new trainer). Of course the feed store had their latest batch of kittens on display for adoption.

Mom turned to me and said: "Well, sweetie, it doesn't look like that pony is going to happen this year either. How about a kitten... or two?"

I <3 my mom!

We picked out two: the squeaky loud runt and the purr-machine fatty and named them Starman and Gem Twist, no matter that they were mostly white with gray tiger stripe spots and both girls! It was the 90s afterall.

Post script: I never did get my pony, but for my 20th birthday, my employer gifted me an OTTB mare, the original Blue Skye. When I called mom to tell her the news, after congratulating me she said a little sadly "But ^I^ wanted to be the one to get your first horse for you." I responded "But you already got Starman and Gem Twist for me. I mean really mom STARMAN and GEM TWIST! No other teen rider ever got a birthday present like that!"
