I bathed my yearling and with a little help took some pictures of him today. Would love for the collective wisdom of you COTHers to help pick the best one.

He's currently a little butt high, which is always challenging, and he's not quite dry.

Here's the album (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=306289&id=758610586&l=55d0151e8c).

Well, this one (http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs244.snc1/9123_267787290586_758610586_8686269_7926443_n.jpg) is just awesome

What is your goal for the "real" picture? Most of them make his back look swayed due to the still-wet hair along the top. The one that shows his conformation the best, imho, is this one (http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs244.snc1/9123_267787255586_758610586_8686263_2931379_n.jpg)

I'm actually trying to get a picture for advertising his sire :). We're doing 'glamour shots' of another colt tonight, but I'm going to let him dry entirely before I start taking pictures.

Thanks for the compliments, I think he's a pretty nice boy as well.

Definitely, definitely then make sure he's completely dry :) Many people can see it's a wetness, but unless they saw the whole series, or knew he'd just had a bath, especially if the picture is made smaller, it may really seem like his back is swayed and they won't take a second look to see what the deal is.

So, given that it's to showcase a sire, here are a couple more tips that will show the foal off the best:
- lighting is great here, so keep that - you don't want the lighting to be too harsh or too high in the sky
- pay attention to the background - the trees are beautiful; the fencepost sticking out of his tail not so much  (I'm still working off that first picture)
- If you can crinkle something in front of his nose to get him to "look through the bridle" or "look into the feed bucket" in order to get him to arch his neck, that's much better.

Here is the album (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=306722&id=758610586&l=2cc7f0e2b2) for the second little boy. Would love input on this one as well!

#8 is his best.

The near legs, front and hind, need to be cannon-bone-vertical. The off ones should be under the body enough to not interfere with a clear shot of the near legs.

#8 also shows his neck and head to the best.

Thanks JB, alliekat, LuvMyDressageQH and showponies for the input!

Getting yearlings to stand up properly is incredibly difficult! Not to mention the challenges of flies (even with copious applications of fly spray), the short attention spans, the awkward growth spurts, etc....

I did photos last weekend of my young horses. We used a plastic bag tied to the end of a driving whip to keep their attention, keep the action to a minimum with the bag, just having it on the end of the whip held down and way, not waving it around, was enough to pique their curiousity and get them to pose nicely.

That head shot on the first horse is FABULOUS. Lovely picture.

Not good at photos, but Legal Jousting certainly does put a nice engine on his foals. Really nice bone also on both of them.

LJ is one of a tiny handful of Dollar line sires left worldwide and even fewer in NA.
