View Full Version : A horse, a Wii and Mii

I recently bought a horse that is a much bigger mover than I am used to. You would think that I had never learned to post the trot. I could not go more than a few strides before I became completely unglued. After several lessons my trainer mentioned that I need to improve my balance and build more abdominal strength. Well I had been considering buying a Wii Fit for some time because of the yoga. So this was the perfect excuse for me to run out and get one.
I was pretty excited to get it and set it up on my own. Then I did all the fun stuff. I picked my Mii (a mii is an avatar that represents you, pretty cute huh), a color scheme, set up a couple of other miis so that mine would not get lonely… all the important stuff. :D
Next came the big test. I loaded the Fit CD and turned on my balance board. The Fit asks you to load in information about yourself so that you can track your progress. I did a quick look around before entering my height (no one knows my real height, not even the DMV) and birth date. It then does a fitness check. This is where all my problems began. It checked my weight, did a balance check and gave my BMI. After displaying my results it, in the most insensitive way, announced “That’s overweight”. Wellll ok. I know I need to lose a few pounds but can’t you be nicer about it.
The next step is to do a balance test. It all seemed simple enough. I went through it and thought it wasn’t all that bad. Then my results were displayed with a message announcing that the basic balance test does not seem to be my forte. And this was followed by “Do you find yourself tripping when you walk?” What?? Who do you think you are talking to? This was followed by my Wii age. Let’s just say it didn’t fall into the decade with my real age. AND, if it were a decade younger I wouldn’t be whining about it here. :(
After my test I went to do some training exercises. It asks you to step off the balance board and then tells you when you can step back on. I did and was greeted with a loud “OW”. Ow? Ow? Do you want me to show you OW? How about I jump up and down? How about that??? Say ow again…. I dare you... say ow again. Then it hit me. I was talking smack to a computer.
I’ve not killed my Wii yet. The results of my balance tests are much better so I don’t get those insults. I've even noticed that it is getting easier to stay with my horse. I've even started losing weight. Wii does still feel the need to greet me with an “Ow” most mornings. I’ve not killed it but I’ve not ruled it out either.

Thanks for posting this, you're a brave soul :)
Glad to hear that it's starting to work for you (and thus, the new horse), even if it continues to be rather grumpy in the morning.
Keep up the great work, and please try not to kill it-- you'd be depriving us of your ongoing adventures!

I have one too and it's *very* rude! It will also complain if you don't show up for a few days, and bother you if someone else in the house sets up an account and then doesn't use it.
But the exercises are very well done -- I recognize a lot of them from what I do a the gym with a trainer.
Another good program is UbiSoft's My Fitness Coach. Maya is nicer than the Wii creature. ;)
If you're not already in a regular program, these two make up a good mix of strength, balance and cardio.

My little sister has Wii Fit. I had to try, naturally :D. It told me my bmi was 5 digits higher than it really is, if that makes you feel any better.

The first test is always the killer  I don't really notice it being rude but it does do what you said lol. It makes me laugh sometimes but I know I've been slacking so it's kind of good that it yells at me to get me moving :)
ETA-love the title of the thread!

I have one that I'm afraid to get one...haven't been on it in about 4 months! So I know it would really let me have it :)

My Wii called me obese! I am very much not obese (unless a size ten is??) but I am solidly packed with muscle.
I love the Wii Fit though. The downhill skiing is really fun.
I got a horse game called My Horse and Me or something - it has jumping. It is really, really difficult. But fun.

As soon as I heard that I decided to ignore the children's pleas for a wii fit. I like making my mii taller and thinner than I'll ever be. Who needs a dose of reality when playing games?!

Is this the regular WII Fit? I have the wii personal trainer... I'll have to go & buy that one now, too. I really like the one I have!! It's a better workout than going to the gym & when you do the planned exercises the way they mix them up is great!!

My inlaws have one and I've done it a few times. Never got insulted  I can't believe it does that. I think I'm going to get on next time and do horrible so I can see what it says  Thats a good story. But if you keep working on it it will get better (you will that is ) and you'll be in better balance. I was very proud though at the age of 30 it said I was 21 of my fit age :D I was jumping off the walls YEAHHHHH I have the opposite problem though, it tells me I'm underweight. I know I need to gain 10lbs or so but damn I try and it don't happen. I know people will think I'm nuts complaining about this but its a problem just like being overweight is.

See I said some would think I'm nuts for complaining, but it has it down sides to with health and other things ;) Please don't kick me in the shin, that was done enough when I played soccer. You can kick me in the butt if you'd like instead :lol:

My ungrateful wretch of a child edits my Mii to make me fatter and also gives me facial hair.

lol this thread makes me laugh. Wii Fit is brutal. It tells me I'm obese (http://keliente.com/Colonel/2.jpg)also. I'm not saying I'm a skinny mini, but I think obese is taking it a bit too far

I finally beat it...took me like a year (would get frustrated and had to quit it for a while!) but I finally did it. That game drives me CRAZY though. The horse is ALWAYS on the wrong lead! GAAAAH. All of the research & development they put into that stupid game giving you 1,000 different outfits (including GPA helmets), 50 different ways to design a horse, etc, and they can't make it go on the correct lead???

Ha ha! I created an alter ego, gave her my cat's name and made it several inches taller. If I'm having a crappy morning I do a second fitness test as my alter. No more "that's overweight" comments! Problem solved.

I've been looking at a Wii for a long time now. My brother and I were supposed to share a PS2 and an XBox (key word ... supposed to) and we've got a PS3 for the big screen in the living room. But my line of work has been taking me into the local Best Buy on a pretty continual basis, and I've been playing with the Wii there. It's been pretty addictive.
I need to work out more, but don't have time to go to the gym between spending time at the barn and work (and I'm no night owl, so I like to stay home once it gets dark) I want to improve my balance, work on cardio training and try try try to improve my aerobic capacity (back when I was doing martial arts, I could actually run for a while before I started gasping for air, now I can barely go a few steps without needing to stop and catch my breath) I'd also like to try a little yoga.
So I ended up getting the Wii and WiiFit since I've read how it's helped a lot of equestrians. Worth giving it a shot, for me.
