Source: AHS Office
Sep 2, 2009 - 10:01:44 AM
The two AHS inspections scheduled for October 11, 2009 at Some Day Soon Farm, Mt. Airy, Md., and Wood's Lane Farm, Mt. Airy, Md., have now been combined and will be held at Hedgeland Equestrian Center in Waterford, Va.
The following are directions to Hedgeland Equestrian Center:
From Leesburg: at junction of Route 15 and Route 7 (bypass) go Route 7 west 3.8 miles and exit at Route 9 (Hillsboro/Charlestown, WV). Turn right at end of exit ramp (Route 9 west). Go 1/2 mile then turn right at Route 662 (Clarks Gap Road). Look for Shell Gas Station on the left. Go 9/10 of a mile and take left at Hedgeland Lane. First right in driveway.

Wow; I would have liked to have known that sooner since Hedgeland is only a couple of miles from my farm and a wonderful facility. They do a super job hosting, as well.

Hot off the presses just today. I am thinking that they were getting too many entries to make the separate sites feasible.

Maybe so. I am royally bummed, though. We did go to an excellent site but it would have been a lot easier and a lot less expensive to go next door (in fact my foals were born there - it really is their second home).

Actually, the entries and inquiries quickly exceeded the number of available stalls at these sites.
Thanks to Dr. Vito Del Vento and Mr. Kelly Hawkins at Hedgeland for being so willing to step in with the assist!

We hope that those of you who may not have been able to secure a stall at either of the Maryland sites (both of which are wonderful facilities) will be encouraged by this change in venue.
Horses may arrive mid afternoon on Saturday. Freejumping practice will begin around 4:00pm.
For me, I was planning on only having one mare presented for inspection, to take advantage of the new AHS option to have a freejumping score be considered as part of the mare's inspection score. Now, I plan on presenting a second mare for inspection/freejumping and a mare and foal for presentation and branding.
The fall AHS inspections in the mid-Atlantic region have typically been among the biggest inspection sites on the tour. We hope that the trend continues this year!

I had not entered my mare in the inspection, due to the fact that I am helping with two other horses and they where going to be at the one inspection site and I was at the other. Can someone tell me if it is to late to send in my mares paper work??

If you have not been to Hedgeland, I do highly recommend it. We have done inspections there and as I mentioned, my mares foal out there. Very nice facility and people.

Update: Looks like this will be another large AHS inspection at this site. I've heard unofficial reports that there may be as many as 20 foals at this inspection.
I understand that there will be handlers and braiders available. Please contact me privately if you require further information.
Hope to see you there!

The website is down and the last time I looked it didn't have Hedgeland listed anyway.
Isn't there anyone out there who is going who can say what time it starts?????????

The inspection at Hedgeland is planned to start with the freejumping portion of the mare performance test at 9:30am.

The Hedgeland site is not listed under the main "Fall Inspection Tour" sites, but you can find the change listed under the AHS press releases. And if you call either of the Maryland sites, you will be informed of change.

BH - if you send me the schedule - I'll put it up on the MAHB site this weekend.
Would you like me to do the grain girl thing again? I'll be there on SUN to help in any way you want.

Some additional entries to the mare performance test require that we start earlier with the free-jumping, around 9:00am.

Anyone know who the champion colt and filly were at the inspection at Hedgeland today??
Bent Hickory
Oct. 12, 2009, 12:10 AM
Top filly was a Dacaprio/Weltmeyer bred by Karen Morris.
Top colt was a Landfriese II/Metternich bred by Rick Toering.
High Score Hanoverian Mare was the three year old Coquette BHF (Coconut Grove xx/Wanderkoenig) bred and owned by Rick Toering. Coquette's sire and dam are both in the North American Hanoverian Jumper Breeding Program. Coquette scored over 8.0 for her inspection and received 9/9 in freejumping.
High Score non-Hanoverian Mare (I think) was the four year old Westfalen mare Satinka (Simply Spruce/Pacific Sunset). I did not get the mare's inspection scores but I know that she received 9/9 in freejumping.
Both these mares took advantage of the new AHS option to have freejumping be considered as part of their mare inspection.
The winner of the mare performance test is by Loerke (but I don't know the motherline) and I think she is owned by Susan Lynch and Francis Swift.
We had a beautiful Virginian day at Hedgeland for an inspection!

Rick, thanks for the report and CONGRATS!!! Congratulations also to Susan and Fran. I think this is their mare -- Leeandra, 2003 chestnut mare by EHS Loerke out of the imported mare Treveri by Trapper, and ridden (I assume) by Todd Bryan (who is now 2 for 2, since he also rode my mare last year to the high score MPT award). So sorry I had to be out of town last weekend and missed the event. I hope someone will give the full rundown soon, perhaps on the MAHB website if not here?

Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to track all the results between helping with the inspection and trying to get my three mares and one foal ready. Hopefully, someone there will be able to post the full results.
Dennis, I'm pretty sure that you are right about Leendra as Todd Bryan was handling and riding the mare that won the MPT -- but there were two Loerke mares at the inspection and I didn't remember which one was which. In any case, Leendra did extremely well in her inspection too, scoring over 7.5, but I don't know her final score. Frankly, I was unable to concentrate at that time.

Congrats!!
Very nice mare and obviously a super jumper, also congrats on your Landfriese II colt. If we can just get your mare and the sire of your champion colt together next year :)

Photos taken by the professional photographer at the event are being posted at: http://www.key4prints.com/#/page/home/
Not all of the photos are up yet.
Look under "Gallery"
Then "Hanoverian Mare and Foal Insp 09"
Then you'll see pages/files for each of the mare entries.
Photos of the foals are grouped together under "Unsorted - No Halter ID Number"
Enjoy!

According to Todd Bryan's web site, Leeandra scored 8's for movement, jumping and conformation, 9's for head and neck and a 10 for type.
She's a lovely mare.

The other Loerke mare was Leeandra's full sister, Larisa LS, who also got elite eligible inspection scores.
