View Full Version : Best Jumper Reins?

The current horse that I'm riding is well he's a sweater. He literally sweats more than anyother horse I know. I'm not worried about it because he cools off easily, but it does make my reins really slippery.

So I was wondering if you guys have any sugestions on some that would provide better grip when sweat soaked? A friend recommended webbed reins but I personally don't like those. So any ideas?

BTW these are the reins I currently use: Ihttp://www.bitofbritain.com/Nunn_Finer_Soft_Grip_Rein_p/175.htm love them but they aren't really working out with this horse

Tad Coffin Performance Laced Rubber Reins (http://www.doversaddlery.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_X1-03132)

Like your horse, my mare sweats profusely, and these reins are absolutely amazing. I have WAY better grip with these than I do with my web reins, rubber reins, or my web/rubber reins. Good luck!

What gloves do you wear? Roeckl gloves tend to get more grippy the wetter they get.

Like someone else said gloves do play a part. I like the Roekl ones too. My horse is a very heavy sweater too, even in the winter, and all I can use is webbed reins. Once the sweat and foam gets on the rubber ones, they are sooo slippery. I've never had a problem with webbed. Especially because I pat my horse a lot cuz he's so good to me and then even more sweat gets on my gloves and the reins:D

Try the Eventa reins from Bit of Britain...ah-mazing! I don't even have to wear gloves...they get stickier the sweatier they get!

I was gonna ask the gloves question too. MacWet gloves are designed to get grippier the more damp they get, and the backs are mesh so your hands won't get hot either.
