I have a yearling Connemara filly who is chestnut. Her sire is grey born chesnut and her dam is bay with a chestnut gene. This filly is not greying, and has a typical, though slightly washed out chestnut colored body. Her tail is flaxen with a bit of red in it. But her mane is grey.

So what do I call this? Educate me please.

Here's a photo of her: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=30679051&l=56fea57e7e&id=1232386841

That's probably a silver bay. I'm pretty sure I've seen the silver gene in this bloodline before. Perhaps from the stallion. Chestnuts can carry the gene and it is not evident in the phenotype as the dilution gene only affects black pigment...so she very well could have inherited it from her sire. To be certain, you can DNA test her to see if she's bay or chestnut and if she carries this dilution or not.

Most likely just a unique expression of chestnut. Possibly chestnut with pangare or an extreme wild bay but the desaturated color tone of those pics make it hard to judge. Does she have any dark hair on her lower legs? Even just down around the coronet?

She kind of reminds me of the stallion Osilvis. He has a similar silvery mane. He's listed as being a palomino but I guarantee he's chestnut. He hasn't sired a single cream dilute foal.

Looks like a chestnut with flaxen.

Do you have a better picture that shows her whole body?

Right now it's too difficult to say Silver Bay or Chestnut w/ Flaxen.

Here's a link with some foal photos--as you can see, her mane was clearly red when she was a youngster. http://wildwy.fatcow.com/SaleEndora.htm

I'm fairly confident she's not a silver as I don't know any confirmed cases of silver in Connemaras. I also own the sire (grey born chestnut) and of the 75 or so offspring he's had, we had tons of chestnuts, but no silvers. And it's hard to believe he could carry the silver gene and only pass it on once in 75 times.

She looks a lot like Osilvis--thanks!

I have another couple of recent photos of Endora, but unfortunately she was standing in high grass, so you can't see her legs. Here's the best one, and I can get more tomorrow if that would be helpful. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pi...&id=1232386841#/photo.php?pid=30679078&id=1232386841

We had one like that as a foal and he's now chestnut with flaxen. Really pretty!

Ok, this (http://wildwy.fatcow.com/images/SaleEndora/Endora3.jpg) is way TOO cute!!

I'm leaning way to chestnut w/flaxen.

But I'd reeeeeally like to see a full, current body shot :)

That's what I'm assuming she has to be, as I've had several of those. But not a one with the grey mane. That's the interesting part to me and I'm intrigued with what would give that interesting little twist.

JB--glad you liked the pic of her playing with the dead yucca. She's quite the charmer.

I'll try to get a couple of full body shots tomorrow that show her legs as well.
