Thank you for your interest. The colt, however, is a legitimate upper level prospect and I feel he should go to a competition home. If you are working with a trainer, please let me know and provide the name. Also, I will need references from your veterinarian before proceeding. In addition, could you kindly provide me with details regarding how you plan to ship this colt, including the name of the shipping company and the address of your farm.

This is not a new scam, same was tried with my coach a few years ago. And for some reason...always from the UK???

I know the scam generally is an old one, but usually they say off the wall things like the "item" wil be shipped in a shoe box, and respond with form letters. This person was a bit more interactive.

The one that tried to nab my coach made up a very interesting story about wanting a 3'9" jumper for his wife (and at the time I thought...he can't find a 3'9" amateur jumper in the UK??) He used the right terminology, everything. She was buying it until he got to the part about sending the difference between purchase price and certified cheque to the shipping agent....

I had another this week from someone who was incensed that the same 5 month old colt is not yet started under saddle and jumping. I am not sure if that was a kid or a scammer, though : )

I has a very similar inquiry on a piece of jewelry I was trying to sell... In my case it was a Paypal scam. The scammer requires you to ship the item out of the country using USPS which offers no tracking outside of the states. The "buyer" then make a Paypal claim stating that the item was never received.

I told her I would only ship out of the country using UPS or Fedex.

That is an unreal coincidence because I also have a trip scheduled there at the same time! Maybe we can take my colt and your ring and stay at Talia's. ; )

LOL! I am Talia! But you are more then welcome to come to Iowa for a visit. Feel free to bring the colt too but he may have to stay at my farm...

I was tempted to email her again the next week "Hello, I'm here in Nigeria with the ring. I'll be headed to your fiance's house in about an hour. Please let him know I'm coming."

This is definitely not a new scam. I used to do them all the time at www.daventryfarms.com/scam.html (http://www.daventryfarms.com/scam.html) ...although, everybody has been bugging me to do a new one! Hard to come up with a good, new idea after the ones I've already done! :lol:

YES! Many people do. :no: I think for many, it's out of desperation or thinking they are doing a good deed or trying to help some poor sole out. Many are just too naive to realize and too trusting.

Man, that is so sad. I think another part of the problem is the fact that many people just want so badly for the offer to be legit.

I'm sure they had to ignore an alarm bell or two in order to proceed.

I started getting these weird e-mails regarding some ad for hay I have for sale. I have NEVER sold hay in my life and have no idea where people are getting my e-mail address from!

These e-mails do not have the trademark spelling and grammar issues of most scams, but I have just been assuming they are a scam and not answering them. I am on my third for the summer though, I so I might respond to the next one just to see if I can find out where it is coming from.

A friend of mine has gotten that one a couple of times. Along with a really funny one that was interested in breeding her gelding. We decided either they have REALLY advanced repro vets, or it must be a stupid scam :lol:

We had one where someone wanted us to bred their gelding. I just told them that our stallions didn't do that sort of thing.:lol::lol:
