I have a horse in my barn that doesn't belong to me but that is by Raymeister. Does anyone know anything about the way his offspring might jump? He is a phenominal mover and is so quiet and easy. We are just starting this youngster over some cross rails and small verticals and he is stuggling to pick up his knees at this stage in his training. Does anyone have any opinions about the type of talent Raymeister tends to throw?

I believe that Ken Borden had a connection to the stallion Raymeister. Owner? Breeder?
I'm not sure, but knew I had seen the horse mentioned on the internet. Hope this helps.

well we are talking dressage type all the way, at least from what I've seen, but I'm sure with some patience he will get it.

My feeling is that with a lot of warmbloods with little or no jumper blood, jumping just isn't in their natural inclination but it doesn't mean they can't jump. My stallion (Donnerhall bloodlines) wouldn't even attempt to hop over the bottom rail if the top two rails in his paddock came down and initially would trip over ground poles and cross rails. But when the jumps got higher, he became a lovely jumper getting 8.5 both at his inspection and at the 100 day test for jumping. I have his son here who is exactly the same way....

Raymeister's mother, Miss Nickle Annie, was a TB who competed over fences successfully for Ken Borden. His sire is the Holsteiner Rantares who was not just a dressage specialist, he hunted, evented etc. and has sired versatile horses.

From www.littlebitfarminc.com

"Miss Nickle Annie is approved Dutch, Hanoverian, Holsteiner, and ISR/Oldenburg. She has shown very successfully in dressage (70% average), hunter (Horse of the Year titles and 2nd in Medal Finals), eventing (undefeated)."

while rantares may have experienced some of the other sides of life, i am not aware of anyone who bred to him other than to get dressage movement. while most holsteiner dressage horses can jump to some extent because it is inherently in the breed so strongly, once the dressage movers and progenitors have been identified, that is usually the sole purpose for which they are selected for breeding.

jazz was another example, about whom it has been said in europe that neither he nor his offspring willingly entertain the notion of jumping a stick on the ground, despite a slate of jumping names further back in his pedigree. (please don't hit me if you have the exceptional one that does!) :)
