I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction here. I just read a post on another forum (for sportbike riders, of all things) where someone has several baby squirrels care for...looks like they're a few weeks old at least. He's in Northern VA and is looking for someone who can rehab them until they can be released into the wild - he's tried calling some local rehab centers but has been told they're full and can't help him. Does anyone know of any resources in DC/MD/VA?

There is a great thread in Around the Farm right now about raising an orphaned baby squirrel- complete with pictures!

I don't know of any groups who would take in squirrels though taking care of them isn't too difficult.

I know - I've been following it - love the pics!! But apparently this guy works and isn't able to provide multiple feedings during the day, so he's looking to get them to a rehabber who can give them everything they need and then release them back into the wild. I'll go check that thread, tho, and see if there are any links for rescues in my area. Thanks!

Can you tell I just went through this with a bird;) I got lucky, found a nearby place that seemed very well organized and prepared, and pleasant.

I never had much luck getting them to go back to the wild but......................I found a great place in Ocala that took semi feral squirrels in and provided a safe place for them to live. Food was provided incase the wanted it, shelter if necessary and even cages for some who refused to adapt to the trees lol. My own little ones went there after they were old enough.
Its hard to make squirrels raised with cats and dogs afraid of them. Heck, Charlie loved to shower with me.
