Right now, my horse gets 1/2 scoop of rice bran a day. I think it works out to 1.5 lbs. a day. I feed the pelleted type. I have to buy the rice bran - not provided by the barn. I am moving in a few weeks to a farm that includes rice bran in the price of board, but they feed the meal (little flakey stuff) not the pellets. How do I sub the meal for the pellets? Is it pound for pound? Or is the meal more concentrated? They are the same brand- Max E Glo

Thanks- that's what I was thinking. That is a lot of meal (also gets a cup of Omega Horse Shine). Good thing she is not a picky eater.

They feed all sorts of stuff at the new barn, so I can probably tinker around if she thinks that much flake is gross. 12% pellets, 14%, Safe Choice, Oats, Beet Pulp, sunflower seeds, sweet feed, alfalfa cubes and two kinds of hay-orchard grass and alfalfa.

Currently my choice is 10% pellets and kind of sad hay (though nice pasture).

wow - that seems like a lot of rice bran - and the stuff isn't cheap - mine get 1/2 cup morning and night - I don't weigh it though.

2lb is the max you'd want to feed.

The Max-E-Glo meal form, which I used to feed, was roughly 3c/lb. I fed 1lb am and 1lb pm at the time.

So, 1c total of that would be about 1/3lb - not enough for weight gain, but can be nice for the coat.

Does anyone know cup vs lbs for the pellets?

I was trying to weight the Max E Glo Pellets last night to discover my new barn does not have a scale

Can't help ya on the pellets, but take 1 cup's worth to the grocery store and weigh it on the veggie scale :D

Yeah- that's the basic reason I am moving. Nice barn, nice people, but don't want to feed more hay, won't feed beet pulp, won't feed more pellets. Will only feed rice bran on my nickle. $25 a bag, and well, it doesn't stretch far when fed to the other horses inadvertantly. :)

the horse looks great right now though- will probably back off on the rice bran and add in some beet pulp when she moves.
