I have a mare that has a stifle injury. She walks sound and canters sound, her trot is 1-2 on the lameness scale out of 5.

Now I JUST got this mare on Thursday, and my vet is coming out with his handy dandy ultrasound next week to take pretty pictures. After doing a lot of research on stifle injuries, I am thinking that perhaps stem cell therapy will be the way to go with her. She has been xrayed and there is no bone problem. After my vet sees her and makes his recommendations, I want to haul her to Coosa Valley Equine Hospital for treatment if indicated.

Can those of you who have used stem cell therapy tell me what to expect, and what your results were? I have saved enough money to have three rounds of treatment done if that is what is indicated, but before I get "all excited" and think it will "fix" her problem, I want the real world opinion of success rates. Keep in mind that until my vet gets here next week with his machine, I really don't know the exact problem other than there is no heat, no swelling, and she isn't lame at the walk or canter, there is a slight hitchiness in her gait at the trot and even then, it is not hip dropping lame, just short strided.

I would love to get her sound enough for low level dressage work (I have trainer and he would ride and show her as I can't do trotters anymore) but don't know what other options there are for a soft tissue injury.

Thank you Cothers once again for your help..by the way..this is a very sweet filly..age four, and an in your pocket type..goodness she likes her peeps - lol. Even if she doesn't go sound, she will stay here and be a pasture puff and companion for my 28 year old mule. But if there is hope, I'd like to try since she is so young and has that factor in her favor.
