Hey guys- so here's the run down. Have 2 mares. One had hives about 3 weeks ago, vet was called Doxy was administered hives went away. However, something resembling scratches developed in hind legs, quickly spread to front legs. White foot is the most effected. Tried everything from mixing doxy and furasone, equiss antifungal shampoo, tea tree oil shampoo and mtg. Mare still has legs blown up and bumpy. Now the other mare has developed what looks like the same thing. Both mares have minimal turnout and legs are rinsed and dried thoroughly and pressure wrapped to illiminate inflamation upon coming in from turn out. Any ideas or suggestions? Is this scratches or some contagious fungus?

My one horse, thoroughbred, who i had just got had hives every where on her body then started loosing hair and it quickly spread from her to my other gelding and so i gave them baths every day with betadine scrub and a formulated medicine shampoo from my vet every 3 days then got different brushes for each horse and it slowly went away...

Or look here:

Also read the insert box on the left of the screen to learn about a condition that is similar to scratches, but worse:
"Pastern Leukocytoclastic Vasculitis - This problem looks very much like common pastern dermatitis/ scratches... It is not. It is important to know which problem you are dealing with."
