I seem to remember seeing a thread that included a link to a site that had plans for making PVC jump standards, but after over an hour of searching, I am coming up blank. Does anyone know where I could find plans to make PVC jump standards? Thanks!

Plans?
You don't need no stinking plans!
DH made me a quite respectable set of standards using 5' 4X4 PVC posts intended for decking or fencing.
We glued finials to the tops - just the plain ones but you can find some fancy ones too.
Drilled holes for pins every 3" starting at 18" up to 4'.
He made the bases from treated lumber painted white with Kilz and made these separate so the standards can be disassembled for storage & easy carrying.
The posts slip into the bases, I stabilize them by scooping sand in the spaces. We had planned to use some sort of weather stripping to make the fit tighter, but that never got done.
Add 3" PVC poles (10' length) decorated with striping tape that Dover sells and Voila!
I am still using them more than 10 years later.
You can also get PVC lattice and make brush or flower boxes.

2Dogs- are these winged standards? I'd love to see a photo of them.

 Sorry, no wings.
And no pics (I am technologically damned)
But check out the PVC lattice or railings and I bet you could figure out how to construct wings. We got all the materials from Lowes.
My set is pretty indistinguishable from the $$$ sets sold by Dover, etc
Just picture the standard & base as separate components.

PVC is seriously degraded by UV (sunlight).

Depending on where you live wood is seriously rotted by the moisture. My last trainer had the same set of wood jumps for forever, she brought them down to Charleston from Ohio. Some she'd had since she was in her teens.... needless to say even though we repainted them every year some of them still rotted and had to be thrown away or the poles shortened. My current barn has a mixture of pvc poles (which I'll only use as ground poles or trot poles as they are not filled) and wooden poles. All the standards are wood. If you're going to use pvc poles in the cups PLEASE weigh them down (fill them with sand or a piece of lumber and cap them). Nothing worse than having a pole follow your horse and scare the crap out of him when he hits it.

I bought soem PVC poles from another barn they are SUPER HEAVY ones, haven't seen them before and I don't mind them as badly as the light ones. I am also trying to work on how to make wingstandards from PVC, main issue is finding the "parts" to work with.
