Brilliant idea this morning; let's ride the in heat mare who is pissy anyway cause of a feed change (she wants her grain back, no way fatty)....it wasn't awful, except that every muscle I have was required to contain the tude. Ok onto the retraining of the race mare sigh....

OMG, I had the same experience on Sunday....went out to ride super-early (before feeding and turnout) and my gelding was having none of it. Fought with me the whole time. *sigh*
That's okay....we are having our first lesson tonight, in which he's going to meet a surcingle and side reins for the first time.

I feel your pain :) My mare becomes a herd bound fussy screaming PITA when she is in heat. She spends the whole ride flinging her head around and calling for her buddies.....and ignoring any input I have whatsoever  Sometimes when she is in full blown heat, we just lunge. No need for both of us to be cranky ;)
I had one a while back that when she was in heat, I couldn't really ride her at all. When I would put my leg on, she would just stop and pee  It was pretty frustrating.....we didn't have productive rides when she came into season. She really really wanted a boyfriend  Poor girl
It will be all better in a week :)

LOL... I feel your pain... I never seem to learn my lesson. Every now and then I'll get my horse and realize that he is just In A Mood. It's rare, but it happens, and if I would just get it through my thick skull that we are not going to do anything productive today except maybe get through grooming alive, he and I would both be perfectly happy the next day. But I always think, "Well, I'll just..." and then it goes downhill from there...

Oh yes been there done that. I have a pissy mare too. I once groomed her, tacked her up, walked her out to the arena and mounted. I sat on her for approximately one moment and then got back off. My friend asked me what the heck and I told her I didn't want to die. Lunging her that day was a real treat if you like Mexican stand-offs and bolting.

Oooooohh...those things are always fun. Nothing like getting your shoulders ripped out of your sockets and skiing behind your horse! And then; well refer to "strange things you say while riding" thread LOL

Oh let me play..the mare I was SO HAPPY with the other day...was in heat on day of competition. This mare who happily crosses any stream, swims in any pond, walks across teeter totters and waits for the drop-chose to do this in front of everyone..not enter any water without a lead. would then play in water happily, enter water from both ends of obstacle, circle in water. COMPLETELY REFUSE to enter SAME water 5 minutes later. Would not do ANY obstacle with out a lead, would not do it alone after crossing it 5 times with a lead. Balked and would not walk on course after 20 minutes of following another horse. WAS ABLE to stand tied at the trailer while i watched my friend compete....I was so happy they gave me my entry money back.

Wow, I am feeling better about the counter bending and spooking at her owner watching her work and then trying to buck (I really love haveing long legs on little horses hehehehe) already! LOL
I am supposed to be riding her tomorrow, however, I think I may just have to wait a few more days...
