I have been helping out with taking down fences at a local ranch and found what appeared to be rather old barbed wire and even though I was pretty sick and tired of barbed wire at that point, I cut out a bunch of it, and took it home, much to the dismay of hubby - "oh no, more junk!"

Said wire has a 4 point flat star for barb.
Anyways, if anyone is interested in it for their craft projects, let me know! It just seemed a shame to let it go to the dump...

How generous of you - there are tons of crafts out there that use barbed wire....just need the right contacts to know about you.

Old barbed wire is interesting.
We have some real old one that is like a thin flat ribbon, not round and has very pricky barbs.

Most museums around here have all kinds on display.
You may want to ask around your chamber of commerce, they generally know who can use that.
Some of our wire fences are well over 100 years old.

I hear you, taking down old fences is work.
We have been adding a steel post between old wooden posts and that may give some of those very old fences a few more years of use.
