to learn how to braid? I'd like to learn from an actual braider but I don't know of one around me.
Are books better or are DVD's? If you have a favorite, please let me know. Also, for all you braiders, what are the tools you need to get started with. Is there a big difference between beginners tools and the stuff the pros use?
Thanks in advance!
I'd like to learn so maybe I can make enough $$$ to at least pay for my own show fees.... :D

Not that I am going to be a big help, but....
I hear good things about the Lucky Braids stuff they have a website
It has been moons since I have braided, but I remember using a BIG needle instead of a pull through-
Aside from that, find what works for you and practice like mad

I know my Mom learned off of a video. We saw her at Equine Affaire. She put herself through college by braiding. I know that's not much help but maybe it will jog someone's memory.

I like to have a printed out tutorial so I can bring it to the barn. That way if I forget some detail I can just look at the paper and follow along. There's TONS on the internet!
However everyone learns differently so what works for me may or may not work for you.

The best way to learn to braid is to do it over and over and over and over....
I actually learned through COTH a few years ago... there was a thread on "how-to" and I read that about 49 times and then put it into practice. Took a few practice rounds, of course, but my braids were up to par in no time. :)
I have, however, heard excellent things about Lucky Braids.

Ive practiced a million times and it seems like I cant ever get it right :D that being said, I have a braider.
But I do have a book called Grooming to Win that's kind of helpful. I learned how to do nice tail braids with it, but unfortunately no matter what, No description in this book or elsewhere can make me do it right  even when i'm being shown in person!

my trainer taught me...personally think it's the best to have someone right there to tell you how to do it
