I am in dire need of a new pair of half chaps. My Tredsteps have seen better days. I love the look of tall boots and would love a pair of half chaps that are leather to give me a tall boot look. Suggestions?

dy'on... made in Belgium... I can't go back to anything else... even though the price tag is steep but they are custom..
Anyone tried the Ariat Monacco half chaps? They look great in the magazine...

I purchased a pair of the oiled leather close contact Ariat half chaps, and I've been really happy with them. I've had them over a year now, and they still look great w/ heavy use. I prefer to ride in tall boots, but have customs that need to last a very long time, so I looked for a half chap that gave me the feel of a tall boot. This one definitely does. The leather molds to your leg.

I am also in need of new pair since my Ariats have finally given out... thanks for posting this topic!

My friend has the Ariat Monaco half chaps and they are beautiful. I want to order a pair, but not sure if the sizing is the same as other Ariat half chaps.:)

Isn't there a size chart on Dover?

I hated my Tredsteps. If you don't want to go custom, I'd recommend Grand Prix. Don't know anything about the Ariat Monacos, but they look lovely.

I have had the same pair of Grand Prix half chaps for the last 5 years and they have held up great. I ride almost everyday...sometimes 2-3 times a day!

I love my Grand Prix's! :D But I find that they have to be TIGHT when you get them. Nearly new field boot tight. They really stretch out and drop otherwise. I don't know where to find a sizing chart but they are come in a huge variety of sizes (height/width) so not just XS,S,M,L etc.

I have the Ariat All Around IIIs - only $100 and lovely in the smooth leather! From far away they have a tall-boot look, up close obviously they're not as super-shiny, but very comfortable, and very elegant. I adore them!

I've gone through 2 pairs of these in under 6 months. I keep breaking the snap at the top. I lovvvve them, and the leather looks great, but that darn snap just doesnt hold up. I've broken 2 snaps.

I recently bought the Ariat Oxford Half Chaps and I LOVE them. They look nice (I love the look of full grain leather) and fit excellently (have more stretch than the Ariat IIIs). I can't say enough good things about them and I've only ridden in them twice.

I really love my Tredsteps but I worry about the snaps on them--they stick so much I fear that they're going to break any second. I need to put some WD-40 on them next time I'm at the barn, and hopefully that will help. Other than that, they're great.

I won't buy Ariat half chaps because the zippers are so awful on my Ariat boots... I wouldn't trust that much Ariat zipper!

I have the Ariat Close Contacts- zipper broke in under a month or two. I had the zippers replaced by a local store and they have lasted a couple of years... the one zipper recently broke- probably my fault- but the leather is still so nice, I will have the zipper replaced again. I ride in them a few times a week.

The other thing- the zip that they came with started at the bottom and zipped up- pain in the butt, so I had them install the new zippers to zip down- mich easier.

I think that it is hit or miss with the Ariat half chap zippers. I have three pairs of their half chaps, the newest pair is 2 years old and all of the zippers have held up just fine. Personally, I want to get a pair of the Grand Prix. They look awesome and my trainer raves about hers.

That's what I thought, I did find a size chart on line.

I hate Ariat half chaps, I think they fal apart like no other, but that's just my opinion and experience. I would suggest paying a little bit more for a pair of Dy'On's, Parlanti's, Grand Prixs, or a nicer pair of Tredsteps. The leather Tredsteps are quite nice. If I were shopping for new half chaps, I would get Parlanti's from Italy.

Are they no longer making the full leather Grand Prix half chaps? Mine fit like customs, but have not held up after two years of near daily riding. I want another pair but can't find them!

I'm happy with the Ariat Cameo half chaps except for the stupid "Cameo" strip. As long as you ditch the strip, they are fine. I would not pay full retail price, but then again I never do (Ebay all the way).

Another one here who found that the Ariat close contacts did not hold up well. Mine fell apart along the inside seam. I mended them several times but finally gave up on them.

I now have the Tredstep Deluxe full grain leather half chaps and have been very happy with them, except for the snaps.

Thanks for all your replies! So I broke down today and bought a new pair of the Tredstep Deluxe Leather half chaps. They don't have that "tall boot" look, but they really are beautiful and look quite sturdy. I do love Tredstep. My suede pair lasted me quite some time riding multiple horses a day so I guess I got my money's worth!
