Here's the story:
Horse walked out of stall on Friday 3 legged, no swelling, no heat, mild temp of 101.4. Has had lymphangitis before in the other hind leg, but this is not lymphangitis, no swelling, no pain on palpation. Gets treated like an abscess (though there is no pulse in the hoof, he was shod on Wed). Saturday AM the horse has a HUGE swelling up inside his stifle, swelling is hard and horse is still lame. Call vet, suspect a bug/wasp bite. Treat topically with Sore No More and cold hosing (Saturday only). Today, Tues, horse is still lame trotting (3/5) but 95% sound at the walk, more willing to move and generally happy. The swelling has dissipated and is now pitting edema. Vet came, plan of action is topical Surpass, one gram bute daily and Naqusome (1 packet daily) thru Thursday were we will reevaluate soundness and sensitivity. Horse is sensitive on swelling.
Could this be some weird wasp living in the barn/stall walls?
