I have no idea where to buy it in bulk, but I'm curious as to what you're treating with it. I know papaian (sp?) is a potent digestive/stomach aid in humans... My horse is a chronic cribber, and I'm going to try to combat that behavior with diet and other natural remedies, so I was wondering if you had heard whether it could help with that.

I assume you mean papaya puree. If so Stomach soother is relatively reasonably priced. You can often find papaya puree at health food stores like Trader Joe's and Whole foods. It is not much cheaper there if at all though.

I was using it daily last year and found it at, of all places, Walmart. I never would have looked there but some nice COTHer answered my version of your post. I have also found it in Hispanic groceries in the freezer section. Good luck.

Probably stupid question, but would it be cheaper to just feed the horse an actual papaya, like the whole fruit?

I bought the chewable papaya tablets at Whole Foods for a gelding that we suspected had some stomach/ulcer type issues possibly brewing. It was only max $12-15 for a bottle of 500 tablets. I gave 5 in the AM and 5 in the PM. He LOVED them.. thought they were awesome!!. I never did taste them myself though lol.

It helps with some cribbers, not others.

Agree - I have used stomach soother, and one of my horses still cribs no matter what I give him, including GG/UG.

Buy One Get Two Free: http://www.puritan.com/papaya-enzymes-129/papaya-papain-012033
Comes out to $7.60 for 750 tablets.
My guy gets these along with his AM meal. Can't beat the price and if they aren't on sale when you check the website, just wait a week.

That's what I used. Easy to store and not terribly expensive. My horse thought they were treats.
